I have a problem with playing some subtitles that are English (ASS) and can’t be overruled by any of the other subtitles that I download or place manually near the mkv file. The strange thing is, when I open the web player I don’t experience that problem. But on my Mi Box Android version or Oneplus Android version, the English version of the subtitle will persist to be shown whatever I do.
Is this an Android bug since the Plex webversion works? The only way to get the subtitles on my tv then is to cast from the webversion on my computer.
That looks fine and not the issue I was thinking of. Can you reproduce the issue and get me both the Android log and your server logs?
Edit - 1 thing of note. That external subtitle you have for that file was found using the search option. Please note that the sub retrieved using search will only be available for the account that searched for it. If you are trying to use another account on your TV that subtitle won’t even show up as an option.
@MovieFan.Plex (https://forums.plex.tv/u/MovieFan.Plex)Here is the Android log. I performed the test with the same episode as the log I submitted before. So I loaded the episode, English subtitles were displayed, then I loaded the Dutch subtitles twice. you could see they were loaded in the settings but the .ass subtitles English were only being showed. Tested on Device: OnePlus7T Model: HD1903 Product: OnePlus7T_EEA Version: 11 and latest Plex version app.
Sorry, didn’t see the previous ping. You don’t have the debug logging enabled on your server, so there isn’t enough info to know what’s going on. Can you you enable that option, recreate the issue, grab new logs.
@anon18523487 I repeated now with debug logging enabled.
I performed the test on Manifest S03E03 this time. plex-log-reemoes (1).zip (699.0 KB) Plex Media Server Logs_2021-08-10_22-13-52.zip (1.7 MB)

Sorry, missed the previous ping. Your new logs do show the issue I’ve already identified. I don’t have info on when a fix will be available. Basically you have a subtitle file that is being recognized as SSA (instead of ASS) by PMS. The Android app has an issue when these subtitle files are involved even if they are not the selected one. Remove these files and stick to using srt for now.
Will plex for android ever support ssa/ ass subtitles? or is this an android limitation?
in the most recent version, plex would not even play my files. I have to disable my h.264 level in plex for android to get plex to play/ transcode again.
@anon18523487 Is there any chance this fix will be picked up the coming months? It’s still a super annoying issue that the .ass subs overrule my own chosen downloaded subs on the android apps. I don’t know the impact to fix this but I can’t imagine that i’m the only one that runs into this issue.
