Hey all, so I’m pretty new to plex, had my server up and running for a month or so now. I have a “Movies” and a “TV Show” library. Whenever I Click on the library - Say “Movies” it shows “Recommended” and “Library” pretty standard. I have a few friends whos servers also have a “Categories” tab next to Library which Categorizes all movies / shows by Genres. They said it was automatic and they never did anything to have that pop up. How do I get that to happen? I’ve been googling for a while now and can’t figure it out. Only thing I’ve found is to make a “Collection” but I don’t think thats quite the same thing.
If it matters, I do NOT have a plex pass at the moment. If it requires It, thats fine, I’ll probably do it, but I really love that idea and everyone has told me its done automatically. Any help is appreciated!
Categories uses any Genre tags that exist for a film.
On my system, those Genre tags are collected by Plex automatically.
I’d be surprised if it wasn’t automatic for everyone.
Look at the preplay screen for any film of yours.
I can also click ↑ that word Documentary and get taken to that Genre.
Also below, If I use the Edit pencil → Tags I can see the genre tag for Documentary.
I haven’t checked EVERY item I have, but every item I’ve clicked on so far, does in fact already have Genre tags built into the meta data, I’ve also refreshed the meta data quite a few times, but so far, no luck on having the Categories tab pop up. Do you have any idea if this is a Plex Pass only thing?
