When Scan my library automatically is checked plex doesn’t respect .plexignore.
My specific situation:
Sonarr grabs, downloads and dumps everything in to /Download. Once the download is complete Sonarr will rename and hardlink the episode in to the correct series/season location.
Plex “senses” the file system change and add the correct episode as expected while ALSO adding the /Downloads file to some weird show called Tower Prep for whatever reason.
Upon the normal hourly scan Plex will remove the unwanted show.
Right, right… I get ya, but on the flip side of that coin, Plex could honor .plexignore when doing automatic updates.
And I totally get that it likely never will, which is why I simply turned that back off rather than reconfigure my whole setup.
Keep in mind that if you enable the setting to detect changes, it detects the change within a folder only, if you place the .plexignore file, outside of that folder, the scanner doesn’t know it’s there. I haven’t tried, but what if you place another .plexignore file within the downloads folder to ignore everything in there.
I missed your idea about adding a specific .plexignore for the entire downloads folder. This worked. I wasn’t sure how to do the wildcards, but if anyone’s curious I used:
*
*.*
./*
It’s a tiny text file and I do, in fact, want it to ignore absolutely everything so, I used everything.
I’ve marked your previous reply as the solution.
I will note that it frequently will add a downloaded episode from downloads temporarily. Sometimes it will be called Downloads and sometimes Tower Prep, but it will disappear shortly after. I guess sometimes my server is slower than others and I just happen to glance over and see it pop in or out.
