Plex become unresponsive

Server Version#: 1.29.0.6244
Player Version#: PlexWeb4.92.0 and WebOS 5.47.1

Recently (last 2-3 weeks) I have noticed that I have been getting the occasional pause. They happen in groups a few seconds of playback apart. Server is not showing any memory, CPU, disk or networking problems.

I have also noticed that occasionally, Plex Server will become unresponsive - as in all queries timeout - not even a 503 returned. Plex is still running. This typically happens after I stop watching a show/movie. Server is not showing any memory, CPU, disk or networking problems.

To solve the issue, I manually stop and restart Plex using the Plex Tray app. Because Plex does not crash, the tray app doesn’t restart Plex automatically. Plex Server then works fine again afterwards.

The log file Plex Media Server.log.1 shows many lines similar to these two:

Oct 14, 2022 14:31:19.592 [10028] ERROR - Thread: Couldn't add a new thread to the pool of size 1: boost::thread_resource_error: Resource temporarily unavailable

and

Oct 14, 2022 14:31:19.148 [10028] DEBUG - CERT: incomplete TLS handshake from [::ffff:147.28.109.141]:35664: malloc failure

Debug logging is turned on. Log file attached.

Plex Media Server.1.log (719.1 KB)

Any ideas?

A couple of things. 1.29.x is quite different than 1.28.2.
Downgrading might be all you need to be happy through new years.

If that doesn’t work, there could be more going on. The usual debug method is warranted.
Power cycle the PC and run microsoft system file checker.

Reboot again, grab a coffee, and try to demonstrate the issue.
Then Settings → Troubleshooting → Download Logs,
zip and attach everything it gives you.

We need to see it boot up and accomplish the usual security related tasks that will use a cert.
I don’t really like the malloc failure. Have you tested the RAM?
