Mixing a bit of Boxee with a bit of the look of Plex

The link works, at least for me.  I wish I knew how to code, cause then I'd do it myself!  I really want this, as I bought my parents a Boxee last year.  I could then share my collection with them over Plex.

That would be me. I put up the github for plexee last fall but then got busy with work. https://github.com/grantmcwilliams/plexforboxee

I welcome any and all contributions to the project and thank robot2xl/xmcnuggetx for the work he did. I'm actively developing it now and even have a public repository that you can install from.

Installation

  • Navigate to Apps -> Repositories on your Boxee
  • Click the + button on the top right to add the PlexforBoxee repository - http://grantmcwilliams.com/plexforboxee
  • Browse the PlexforBoxee repository and add the Plexee App
  • Manual configure Plexee using the Plexee app
  • Enter the IP address of your Plex Media Server
  • Enter the port number of your Plex Media Server (default is 32400)

It only streams and has no transcoding, auto discovery of the PMS isn't yet supported and it doesn't show photos or stream audio yet. We're working on all of that.

I'm impressed. I dug out my boxee just to try this and its looking very good so far. Runs great and seams to play all my content.

I have boxee+ installed right now, but if there was a way to boot to this once its finished i would consider switching to this as the default OS.

I will keep checking back, awesome work!!

Yes, we need an option for subtitles.

Any updates to this?  I added the app through the repository and it did download.  When I launch the app it just shows auto scanning for plex servers and then it goes away.  I would love to breathe new life into my boxee box!  It was my favorite media player and I am really disappointed that they left all of us who invested in them, hanging in the wind.

This is truly great!

Finally I can browse through my movies without getting annoyed by the sluggish boxee interface (running Boxee+ doesn't help).

The only thing I'm missing is to be able to change subs when playing a movie.

The best option is install XBMC on Boxee and install Plexbmc and skin Amber.

  1. Install the latest BOXEE+HACKS (1.5.3 when this is written), follow the steps here: http://boxeed.in/
  2. Get a USB stick or a SD card (External HD works as well). High speed will improve the performance of XMBC.
  3. Download a XBMC build from this thread: http://boxeed.in/forums/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=148
  4. Extract all files and folders from the xbmc folder in the zip file to the root of the USB-stick/SD-card.
  5. Plugin the USB-stick/SD-card in the BB
  6. Start the BB, and now you should have XBMC running.

If you want to "Uninstall" XBMC/Boot into Boxee just remove the USB-Drive/SD-Card.

Tried to install this and when adding the link to the repository it finds the repository but on scanning will not find an App to install.
