Subtitles plugin for TV shows / Movies

Hi All,



I want to develop a subtitle downloader plugin for Plex.



Wondering, is there any work that’s already done that I could use to help me in the process? Right now

I’m interested in brazilian subtitles (legendas.tv site), but I’m pretty sure this could be easily ported

to opensubtitles.



I’ve tried to search the forum, but I could not find any progress on this.

It’s definitely planned for the future, but not practical at the moment. As we’re redesigning the video library, the plug-ins have no way of interfacing with the old XBMC library system. It won’t really be possible until we’ve made more progress with Plex’s new library management system.

how far down the road is it though ? by the end of the year ?

i tried boxee purely because i heard it has subtitle downloading plug-in built-in and i was sorely disapointed by Boxee. maybe if i invested as much time figuring it out as i did with plex it'd be easier to get my head around it but from first glance boxee looks just weird. i really wanted ability to have subtitles DLing automated but for now i've given up. boxee isnt worth it at the moment.

Still on the roadmap, just not sure exactly when it’ll make an appearance :slight_smile:

I've created an iPhone App that can browse subtitles easily. My idea would be that whenever you click
a particular subtitle in your iPhone, it automatically appears in the content that is being played by Plex on the big screen.

My cousin likes to watch the movies with subtitles but Ive never payed attention to the subtitles really … but next time I watch a HP film together with him Ill definitely watch out for what you said.



Pretty stupid mistakes, though. They could have easily fixed the subtitles … ah well …

I wrote the OpenSubtitles_OSD for XBMC, its a modified OpenSubtitles script that Leo wrote and the Boxee version. [More Here](http://www.xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=56083)

I have sent you the PM about porting it to Plex. I have tested it on Plex and it works, but it needs a lot of modifications.

Whoa , gonna try that ASAP. Plex is still my favorite HTPC , but features like this are hard to resist :-)

The XBMC scripting part of Plex will be nuked in 0.9, so it feels like making this Plex-worthy would only help us for a short time.
When the new library is out, a suitable solution could be made, but using a different approach.

It wont work un-modified. I have ported it to Plex and its working, I have also notified Elan about it and lets see what can be done.
