I run plex on an arch linux vm on proxmox using the linuxserver.io image and i’m getting a weird issue which only happens when streaming hi res music (stereo 192k/24 or surround 96000/24) in which the music can start uncontrollably starting and stopping or only buffering for a few seconds which is very annoying. This only happens when streaming full quality but the only clients where i stream full quality are my snapcast server which is another vm on the same proxmox host so no bandwith limit or on my desktop pc which is connected via ethernet too. I tried streaming a film in plex web in 4k which should use more bandwidth than music and that doesn’t buffer. When i had a plex pass i noticed that when it would be buffering the bandwidth used would go up and down with the buffering instead with other tracks that didn’t have this issue it would be a singular peak and then the whole track would play without issues.
might be related to issue observed on (linux) headless … since 4.10, caching current and prefetching next track sometimes happens at lower then expected network speeds … most noticeable with very high bitrate tracks (as in your description), as caching can struggle to stay ahead of playback
hopefully will be fixed in an upcoming release … in the meantime, increasing network speed setting to 10mbps might help, or dropping back to 4.9.5 (with node 16)
ah, got it … the Plexmap linux desktop client might have same issue as what i described for headless … but agree don’t think it would affect Plex web app
Yea it’s very weird and even if it would be a Plexamp Linux problem I have the same issue on Android but it’s less of an issue there since I don’t always stream music in original quality on phone.
