The problem exist on bell network over quebec. So not comcast. Its a plex update problem. If we downgrade its ok
Why plex dont correct the problem?

Just throwing my 2 cents in. I have been having this problem on and off for the past month or so. The past couple weeks it degraded even worse on multiple Roku clients. Everyone is using Comcast (including the server).
I turned on the 0.0.0.0/0 setting referenced above and it immediately fixed my problem. I donât see this as a long term solution because it has removed my bandwidth restrictions. Iâd like to have them back since I do have limited upload, but when I remove the 0.0.0.0/0 the buffering comes back. Better to not have bandwidth restrictions and actually be able to stream than the other way around.
@BigStingman I find/observe at certain times of the day everything works with Comcast/Roku, other times it doesnât. Works/doesnât appears to coincide with ânot peak Internet usage hoursâ/âpeak Internet usage hoursâ. i.e. when you most want it to workâŠ
@nucahx, What units are you driving for âallâ your clients? [Roku?] What ISP(s) are you using for âallâ your remote clients and server? Can you run iperf to get some numbers when itâs acting up? (like Iâll be doing in about a week)
@Mlemieux77, What units are you driving? [Roku?] Can you run iperf to get some numbers? âPlexâ canât correct the problem until âthe problemâ is identified. âItâs busted, why donât you fix it?â isnât identification of the problem, itâs frustration. Weâre -all- frustrated with this problem, or we wouldnât bother posting. {BTW, I have nothing to do with Plex, Iâm just another customer, a very technical one} Iâm glad downgrading took care of your problem. For me ~6 months ago, the same action âcuredâ this problem for a few days, then it was back. Wait until Christmas when everybody unwraps, installs, and uses their new Roku units on the same network they share with you.
If âPlexâ is going to fix this, âPlexâ needs to have these answers, and maybe more. I assume everybody is running PMS (Plex Media Server) under Ubuntu? I also assume someone from Plex is reading these messages. Thanks everyone.
I did not downgrade. I have 3 servers. Synology ds918+, pr4100 and one i5 32g ram with ubuntu server. Every servers is doing the same problem since a few week. Not local for sure. People are using chrome, smarttv, roku, firefox, plex media center, apple tv4k. Iphone, android phones. The problem is on all platform. I did not test iperf for your info. Nothing change on my side beside making updates of plex on the 3 servers.
I have 3 Tauttuli that monitors every server and i never have receive any buffering email before in the last few years.
Visited Gig Harbor WA (problematic Comcast/Roku location) this weekend. This person bought a new Vizio SmartTV with Plex 3.13.13 installed. This can be used instead of the Roku. We watched two shows during prime time using PMS Version 1.14.0.5470. The time slot is usually when the Roku has problems. Zero viewing problems, Plex was nice and responsive. Of course this is very low mileage on the new Vizio unit. But we didnât have problems under conditions which usually present problems with the Roku at the same installation.
This user just reported watching a 2 hour movie during prime time, no playback problems.
The channel used is PMS Version 1.14.0.5470 -> Frontier 30/30 FIOS -> Comcast -> new Visio SmartTV.
Again, looks like the Comcast/Roku combination at this location has serious Plex viewing problems where Vizio SmartTV doesnât.
Yes Craig but now youâve introduced another variable - the new Plex server version. Did they fix this issue in that rev?
@ChewyWaffles I think the point is it may not be PMS at all. All my setup testing points to the Plex Player app as implemented in the Roku Plex app. SmartTV Plex app works, Roku doesnât, on all PMS versions listed above in my testing, even older PMS versions. In my situation, the problem is bad enough that PMS version no longer matters, all versions now exhibit buffering issues, even ones that used to work.
What I canât account for is @Mlemieux77 situation where all his servers and players exhibit the âbufferingâ problem. What he describes is similar to my situation about 6 months ago, except I only had one PMS. The only âconstantâ in his setup is âbell network in Quebecâ which seems to aggravate the problem.
I noticed the Comcast network is now offering both ipv6 and ipv4 network addresses, where before when everything was working it was only IPv4. I configured the router to use IPv4. WAN configurations are also dynamic. It also looks like Frontier may also be silently converting to ipv6.
This is a confusing, frustrating and vexing issue.
Since the Roku App changed, I havenât noticed these problems. My testing isnât exhaustive yet, but I no longer see âBufferingâ problems. Iâll report back if this status changes.
