Server Version#: 1.26.2.5797
Player Version#: Literally all
I haven’t had an issue streaming files until recently, almost every file just constantly buffers, direct play is being used, no problem transcoding if present, cpu/ram not being used at all. When playing a large file, it peaks at the bitrate and then drops and constantly buffers. Internet connection is gigabit up and down and have no problems streaming from other services. Happens on my Shield TV Tube, PC, S22, other Android TVs, never had this issue before.
Picture shown is initiating large file. I have upload set to 1000, direct playing the movie, just isn’t working. Any suggestions and/or help would be much appreciated.

Found what Plex Logs display when the buffering occurs
Enabled verbose logging, when media is buffering, this displays in the logs
First log is host, rest are my IP connecting remotely to the server.
Am also receiving
WebSocket: processed 1 frame(s) consistently.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Is it only really large hit bitrate remux files? So you are remote from server? is it fine when local?
I’ve not seen those websocket errors before so will need to ask someone when they are around.
If you would not mind turning off verbose logging > reprducing > getting server logs it would be appreciated. You can message them to me
Same issue when local, currently running a 30mbps remux file, buffers, 54mbps file buffers. Anything under ~25mbps seems to be fine. Will send those logs over, I’ll do a lower end 30mbps remux file and larger 4k HDR remux file.
Local playback works fine as of yesterday, any and all remote connections whether it be within or outside my network, on a phone, laptop, tablet, TV just don’t seem to playback properly if the file is exceeding 20mbps. Any and all suggestions/help are greatly appreciated…
Having the same issue suddenly with my 4K Dolby Vision files for sure. Switching from Atmos to ac3 doesn’t seem to make a difference.
Looks like I made a big mistake again letting ShieldTV update Plex.
Local or remote? Curious if your issue is present on different devices too
Local network direct play on a Shield TV. Wired gigabit connections from server to player.
It seems like the same issue they fixed in the last few months, and it appears to be back.
So now I get to spend some time figuring out if I need to roll back the server to the version that un-breaks this, or maybe the newest beta is the answer. Who the hell knows.
Tube Shield or Shield Pro? My issue is remote based now somehow lol. Every device in my house can’t seem to buffer files over ~20mbps.
Newest model of the Shield TV Pro.
Try playing the file on a laptop, phone, tablet or anything and see if it occurs. I’m very curious if it’s happening on all your devices as well
This would be the only setup in my house that can direct play 4K content. Everything else is going to cause a transcode with this content and won’t be worth testing. My CPU will fold the moment it gets asked to transcode 4K.
Is it only Dolby Vision content? A Windows desktop or laptop, or a latest smartphone can surely direct play 4k content unless your Wifi sucks haha
Yeah it’s all Dolby Vision or HDR content.
It’s only HDR or Dolby Vision content that has an issue? Not just high bitrate files?
All I know is that I just rolled my plex app on the Shield back to the version I installed on April 22nd which appears to be 9.1.0.32183
I make no promises that it will fix your issue, but I can tell you mine is fixed. It would seem Plex devs have let 4K buffering crap come back again in new releases.
Yea I think our issues differ there haha, hopefully they sort it out in a new update!
Had a friend play the files I’ve been testing, ran fine for him, so now I guess it’s just my network. Like I previously mentioned, my speeds are 1gb up on server, 1gb down on my remote end. CPU usage is baseline when running the content direct playback, files smaller than ~20mbps buffer just fine. Anything more than that plays for a few seconds, buffers, repeat. Nobody on my end is using a lot of bandwidth, nothing on the server end. Changed external port, no luck. Ran through every setting on my router, plex player/s, nothing. Used Kodi Plex Add-on, same issue. Just connected to a VPN, same issue. Tried rolling back my server version to 1.24.5, nothing. When the issue occurs, the logs state that the remote ip is not requesting, then the local ip is not requesting, hence buffering. Truly at a loss, I’ve been trying to troubleshoot this issue for at least 5 days straight. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
@ChuckPa Not sure if this is something you are familiar with
