I have had Plex now for a number of years, however, it seems that no line is good enough for the Plex Server. Initially, I had a 20MB VDSL line which worked fine, then it started buffering all over the show but still played fine on my mobile phone?? Long story short, I have moved from ADSL to a 10MB Fibre line, then 20MB, then 50MB priority fibre and yesterday upgraded to a 100MB fibre line.
PLEX is still buffering even with the quality setting at 4 out of 12 under settings. How on God’s earth can this be ???
Anyone with advice please help or I will cancel this service so as to prolong my life as I can not handle this frustration!
I had this sort of confusing behavior and it turned out to be the ethernet port on my plex server’s motherboard burning out (after 10 years loyal service).
If possible, try using a different network connection on your server (wifi if you have it or buy a cheap ethernet USB dongle) to test this chain in your pipeline.
The speed of your Internet connection only affects if you stream outside of your local network (outside your house). In such case it is not the download speed where your Plex server is located, but the upload speed of said location and the download speed of at which other local network your remote client currently reside at.
You have provided neither of the upload speed, nor the download speed of from where you try to play items. Other helpful items such as client, type of media etc are currently also missing.
