Server Version#: 1.30.2.6563
Player Version#: Plex.tv/web player
I am running Plex on a Ubuntu 22.04 box at my house in Europe, no Docker involved. I am currently in Mexico and it’s been very difficult to watch anything on Plex. It constantly takes minutes to start playing and can only play 10s at a time before it needs to buffer again, making it pretty useless.
I have done a speedtest (to my server) and I get 40-50 megabits constantly. So bandwidth on both ends isn’t the issue when I try to play an 8 mbit file without transcoding (direct play).
When I try to download the file instead it starts off strong and then drops down to 200kb/s or even lower. This has happened in multiple locations and multiple internet connections here in Mexico. Everytime I tested the speed and it was at least double of the bitrate of the file I was trying to play.
It also often just stops downloading, lucky I can resume the download manually in the browser every time.
Now I logged onto my NAS over VPN and tried to download the same file, then it downloads perfectly at around 3-4 MB/s (30 mbits).
How can this happen and is there anything I can do to fix these slow speeds?
