Everytime the power goes out, or windows does an update and my computer is turned off, Plex can not find my media. I have found (through trial and error) that the only way to recover it is to download and reinstall the Plex media server again. II should be able to turn off my computer and it find it again. Is there a fix for this? I have to search for and reinstall the plex media server every time my computer is turned on again.
Please help or advise. >
Can you describe your setup?
Where are your Plex library files? On the same computer as the server? On a network drive?
All my movies and TV shows are on external drives attached to my computer.
I would start by making sure that those drives don’t ever go to sleep, because if it takes time for them to spin up, Plex can get confused.
I would also turn off the setting that automatically empties the trash, because IF plex TEMPORARILY loses sight of a file AND that setting is ON, then Plex will forget the file completely, and this is usually not what people want.
There may be something else going on but I would definitely check these things.
Instead of re-installing Plex server, tap your Windows key, then type serv and pick “Plex Media Server” from the search results.
Start it.
After 2 minutes try to play a video.
If this does work, go and seek the Plex task tray icon (botton, right on your primary screen). Right-click on it then toggle “Start Plex Media Server at Login” off and back on.
Now restart your computer and see if Plex server is available and working after ~2 minutes afterwards.
