Plex Cannot See Movies on Drive in Linux Mint

Server Version#: 1.64.2.3546-5107ec40
I just set up a linux mint system. My drives are in a raid 1 array and they are set up as a samba share so I can transfer stuff from windows. My raid array is formatted to ext4. I have folders in the raid array that are named moves/photos etc. There are files in those folders but plex does not see them.
I am very new to linux but I wanted to set this up.

Sounds like you might have a permission issue where the PMS cannot see/access your files.
Make sure the system user running the PMS permission to see the files.
This will also matter when you’re mounting the drives via Samba.

You’re right
that’ll certainly add to the OPs troubles

Wait
 what
 That is news to me
What linux distros are supported. I thought Mint was close enough to Ubuntu since they are both Debian based

Is there a better linux distro to use?

from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-media-server

Mint has proven itself to fail at critical moments.
Linux standard commands ‘just fail’ for no reason.

It is a “light duty OS” only.

It is not supported for PMS for that reason.

I have spent hours with users getting Mint to work and failing.
The moment they switched to Ubuntu / Debian (Original) , everything worked as documented.

Mint is a ‘KnockOff’ and , unforunately, not a good one for Plex use.

This just worked after I switched to Ubuntu didn’t need to do any configuring.

Just nuts, isn’t it?

There’s no rhyme or reason for it to be that way but now you too understand why we don’t support it.
