Plex cant resume DV titles on CCwGT

Chromecast play without problem movies with DV. Sometimes if bitrate is too high I must change quality suggestions to on and after few secs play with auto quality I change to original and is ok. Only with 9.29 and later version is big problem with DV on Chromecast with GTV

10.0.0.3954
[TV] Player: setting for forcing DoVi p7 playback.

If enabled this setting
Samples movies:
Halloween Final (Dolby Vision)
Set DoVi low latency played in DV
Set DoVi standard played in DV, but after press back my Chromecast crash and restart

Avatar: The Way of Water (Dolby Vision)
Set DV low latency: DV movie is played in HDR10
Set DV standard: DV movie is played in SDR

Maybe just add also option?
Force DV if supported by tv and device

Xbox Series X not play many movies in DV or just not play this and my TCL C835 in builded Android play many DV movies in HDR10…

This is confusing to me as I believe I have many profile 7 titles that seem to play fine. If I am correct all the samples I have provided you are profile 7

I think DV profile 7 Dual Track Dual Layer FEL is not supported
DV profile 7 Single Track Dual Layer FEL is supported

No I think this is incorrect there are titles with only HDR10+ and these fallback to HDR instead of playing in HDR10+ if set to dolby vision in the settings.

This should be easy to reproduce with any title with HDR10+. If you have trouble please let me know I can provide a sample file and logs again.

Ok I am not going to be able to test this as I do not have a display that supports HDR10+. Will need to find someone at Plex that does.

If the CGTV is set to HDR in settings does it play in HDR10+? With regards to the settings, Plex does not know what settings are being used so it can be the CGTV that has issues. I had an issue when changing to HDR it would not play in HDR because the CGTV had selected the incorrect color format.

This is also confusing me. I dont think its the Dual and Single track as I have a few test files of each and playback is fine (The player just ignores the second layer). It definitely is a profile 7 issue as the device technically does not support it.

The test file you sent me has a high bitrate perhaps that with Dual layer could be the issue. I am trying to find high-bitrate dual-layer files. If you could provide another sample that would be great. The first sample you provided also seems to have playback issues on the Shield. (not with DoVi but with smooth playback)

It would be good if you could test this as currently it feels broken. I can still play HDR10+ content(even with dolby vision in the settings). (The Boys on Amazon Prime) on the TV with CCwGT but Plex does not handle it correctly and reverts back to HDR.

I am also still having issues with resume on some titles and skip on some titles. Did something chance recently. I can try to provide another sample file for this.

This is with HDR10+ with no DoVi correct, and it is falling back to HDR?

Which version of the app are you on?

Yes correct. Expected behavior fallback to HDR10+

I am using 9.31.0.3817 (fb6a731).

I am finding more titles that are having these issues. Playback issues with resume. Strangely start from start then chapter skip seems to work. And blank screen issues on some DV titles.

Hi @morganj wondering if there are any updates on this?

Sorry for the delay in response, I have been out for a few weeks. Have you updated your app to v10 yet? Would like to see if you have the same results on the latest version

Has this setting been added yet? It’s unfortunate that the ability to play profile 7 DV was completely removed with no way to add it back.

I am on 10.0.0.4149

I do see the enable dolby vision profile 7 options now and have enabled it but there are still issues.

Most titles seem to play but have the seeking and resume issue I was originally reporting has now returned.

There do also seem to be titles that dont display video still. Still investigating this and will update in the next few days.

Unfortunately, you will have issues when enabling DoVi profile 7 hence why we have given the user the ability to enable it in the case that you would like to play it, instead of just disabling it entirely. As the device does not officially support profile 7 there will always be issues with it that we cannot fix.

Understood but if it does play shouldn’t the resume and seek work as well?

Unfortunately not, similar to that spreadsheet you shared the same occurs in other plays not just Plex. Profile 7 is meant for Ultra HD Blu-Ray and therefore the support on streaming devices is subpar. If you do not want to run into issues with playback it’s recommended to disable Profile 7 and fallback to HDR or use a different profile.

Understood. Thanks for the help.
