Plex cant resume DV titles on CCwGT

Server Version#: 1.32.5.7349
Player Version#: 9.30.0.3604
Plex Media Server Logs_2023-09-03_18-50-58.zip (5.0 MB)

<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Starts playing for a second, see the DV logo pop up then says error unable to play media. I also cant skip around in the movie. If I play for start then it plays fine but can only pause and play no seeking or I get this error again.

Please help. Not sure how to resolve this.

Seems to be exclusive to DV profile 7 titles

Hi, would you be able to provide the client-logs? And a sample file if possible? I would like to try reproduce the issue.

clientlog.txt (327.8 KB)

Here is the client log.

I was able to create a sample file from the plex transcoder but I had to use 10 mins of video. The file is quite large at almost 5GB. Trying to find a good way to share it. (link: Anonym File - try2.mkv)

Also I was able to find a title that doesnt seem to exhibit this behavior at least so far…(doesnt seem to be blanket across the board rule)

You can also see others are reporting this behavior here: Dolby_Vision_stuff - Google Sheets

Some more info. Its not 100% of the time resume fails. It does work once in a blue moon. When it does work I notice the dolby vision logo pop up before anything plays. When it doesnt work i see video then some quick flickering then the dolby vision logo then a failure to play and back in the plex menus

I also tried gigabit ethernet so its not network

Great thanks for the extra info, sample file and logs. I have been able to reproduce the issue. Seems like starting playback is fine but skipping forward or trying to resume causes issues. I am filing the issue to be looked at. Thanks for reporting the issue.

Yes exactly, thank you so much!

Pls fix my problem too

On latest version Plex beta on Chromecast with Google TV, problem is also with play Dolby Vision movie content. This play in HDR10…or is black screen. Few movies play in Dolby Vision.
My settings in Chromecast 4K with Google TV:

Chromecast Dynamic Range & Color format:
Dynamic range format preference: Dolby Vision
Match content dynamic range: Match content
Dolby Vision Mode: Low Latency

Match content frame-rate:
Non-seamless

All is ok on 9.28

Hi,

Are you still experiencing the issue? Which version of the app are you currently on? I see you said you are on the beta have you upgraded to 9.31.0 and try reproduce the issue? If it is still happening could you please provide client-logs. As well as the details of the DoVi file you are playing what profile is it?

I have been unable to reproduce the issue

A fix for this should be coming in 9.31.0

Latest beta 9.31
That I writes here, is problem with play Dolby Vision content. On 9.28 all was ok. Now I’m check and on 9.31 if is black screen on Dolby vision movie, I must change settings in Chromecast from Dolby Vision Mode: Low Latency to Dolby Vision Mode: Standard.
This tip work but PLEX interface in movie have different color…

Would you please provide the client-logs link is in my previous post. I am unable to reproduce the issue and I am using the same settings as you. If you could also provide a sample file that would help a lot as it could be the specific format of DoVi that you are using.

There is also a setting called “Refresh Rate Switching Delay” which by default is set to "None"could you try setting it to 1 of the 3 options and try again?

Nothing help

Ok but as requested I need more information to be able to debug the issue.

The resume and skip issue is now resolved for some titles but the new issue mentioned by @mkdante381 Is confirmed for me also.

I have found 2 titles exhibiting this behavior that were not previously.

I can also confirm black screen on low latency mode. Tried refresh rate switching delay to all 4 settings no go.

Switching to standard mode does show picture but colors are all messed up.

Attaching client logs and will try to provide sample file soon.

Thanks for the info. I can reproduce it with the sample file. We have figured out what caused the issue, the player version was updated in 9.29 which seems to be causing the issues. I have filed another issue to get it fixed.

Thank you, please do update when resolve and what version the fix is in.

Plex 10.0.0.3923
“Player: strip DoVi metadata if profile is not supported.”

This doesn’t solve my and others problems. Plex player simply won’t play Dolby Vision movies correctly now, just now play in HDR10 and ignore metadata DV…
On 9.28 and olders always was ok and Plex ALWAYS PLAY in Dolby Vision if movie is in this format. Always but not always. After resume movie in DV, Plex sometime play this movie in HDR10 and I must play from begging. Plex ignore settings of Android 12 from Chromecast with GOOGLE TV? Not detect TV with Dolby Vision?I have always set Dolby Vision priority to on and Dolby Vision to low latency and on 9.28 and holders was ok but after press back my Chromecast crash and restart. Now is ok and no restart.
Plus fix playing DV. On 9.28 was ok

The same movie on my TCL c835 is just played in in HDR10. PLS add option in Plex to priority Dolby Vision or priority HDR(HDR10+, HDR10…)

Edit:
Ok I checked
Chromecast with Google tv
Set DV low latency: DV movie is played in HDR10
Set DV standard: DV movie is played in SDR

This is unacceptable. Who test this updates?

There is something wrong with some DV titles it seems. I am experiencing the same issues as you. They will sort it out just give them a few days.

I think potentially there is something going on with the profiles.

I have also noticed at times if there is a title with HDR10+ it will fallback to regular HDR unless in the settings I go and change from Dolby Vision to HDR, then the content will play in HDR10+.

Although this is a bit of an annoyance I can play hdr10+ properly this way.

Currently the issue with DV showing blank screens is the biggest issue.

Do you have any DV titles that play properly? I have many that are ok just some that have this problem.

With regards to the stripping, this is only for DoVi profile 7 as the CGTV 4K only officially supports profiles 5 and 8. The reasoning behind disabling it is we have had numerous playback issues with it such as the resuming and skipping listed in this post.

Edit: I can confirm we will be adding a setting that will allow you to enable support for DoVi profile 7 even though you may experience some playback issues. The default for the setting will be off.

The fallback to HDR instead of HDR10+ is due to it stripping HDR10+ when DoVi is present. In the beta build 10.0.0 this should not happen as DoVi is being stripped instead if it is profile 7 so it should fallback to HDR10+ instead of HDR. So you should not need to change the CGTV to HDR from DoVi.

The blackscreen issue has also been resolved in 10.0.0.
