Plex can't see all videos

Version 4.87.2

I got a new router. Since then, an issue appears.

Everything looks normal. All my videos show on the dash board, but after some hours a lot of them disappear. All from the same network hard disk (I got 5). Starting library scanning finds all the missing videos but now my changes in meta data are gone.

I think perhaps the disk doesn’t wake up during background scanning and are assumed deleted.

How do I fix that?

How do I turn off automatic emptying the bin?

It’s kind of boring to restore the Plex Media Server database on daily base.

Settings → Library → Empty trash automatically after every scan

I never marked the “empty Trash automatically” and even so it seems it has been done.
Otherwise Plex normally restore my entries to meta data.
The weird thing is that I can force Trash Can to empty and everything is still okay - Seems something is happening during some hours and then Plex “lost” a lot.

If possible, configure the network drive to not go to sleep/spin down.

Does the network drive have any ability to check for errors or other problems? If it is the same make/model as one of the others, verify the configuration, access permissions, etc are the same.

Here is an update on the situation:
Seems the error switched to another drive. Before it was the drive mapped as X; now it’s W
Those two drives have been working with Plex for at least 5 years without any problems.
If the trash can isn’t emptied then the meta data should be restored from there when scanning. I did that often: Delete a video without emptying the TC - bring in a new version of a video and Plex recognize it’s the same video and meta data are restored. (And that is even if I store the video in another folder):

So, one thing is that videos disappear but why doesn’t Plex recognize them when scanning. They come up as newly added?
All 5 disks are Western Digital in raid 1 and they appear to be free of any errors.
Of cause I could configure them not to sleep but price on electricity is going up up so…

As a test, to see if it helps. If the problem re-occurs you can change them back.

So you have a NAS with five drives in RAID 1, and it has two volumes that map to the X: and W: drives on the PC running Plex Media Server?

This seems like a stability issue with the network or the network drives.

With no auto-emptying of the trash, if the network devices are unavailable and Plex tries to scan them, it should mark the media as unavailable, displaying a red trash can on the movie/episode poster.

When Plex re-scans the media, assuming the drives are online, the media will show as available. Played/unplayed, date added, etc info should remain as before. The media should not appear as newly added.

Suggestion:

  1. Configure Plex Server for debug level logs.
    Settings → Server_Name → General + Show Advanced.

  2. Reboot everything - the network storage, the Plex server PC, routers, switches, etc.

  3. When the problem re-occurs, pull the server log files (Settings → Troubleshooting). Maybe they will show something.

I’ll try that.
I don’t understand though why the lost videoes aren’t in the Trash Can.
My NAS drives are mapped X,W,S,Q and N
So far it has only been X and W causing trouble

In the log I see the message “Error - unable to reach the system bundle”
I don’t know what that means.

Can you attach the zip file to the thread, so others can assist?

Seems my system is stable. Accepting that more than 2000 videos disappear from Plex and then scan and find them again - then everything works normally.
Just that I lost all Danish synopsis and all of my tags .
I’ll have to build that again :unamused:

Anyway, thanks for your help, FordGuy61
