Plex can't see local media

Server Version#: 1.29
Player Version#: AppleTV
Neither the Plex web UI nor the Plex app on AppleTV can see my local Plex Media Server. Local Plex App works fine. The AppleTV has no trouble finding my local media via non-Plex apps. The Plex app for AppleTV says my local library is “Currently Unavailable”. The web UI wants me to get the Plex Media Server. Confirmed Plex Media Server is up and running. Everything updated to current versions (1.29 for PMS, Apple Plex app updated to whatever is current today). VPN is off. Local media is on a Windows 10 desktop. Everything has been uninstalled, reinstalled, logged out, and logged back in. Am running out of ideas. Can someone please help?

Do you have a firewall rule for PMS?

There is no server connected to your plex account.
I assume your server is either not signed in at all or signed into a different plex account.
Make sure it is using the same plex user account as all your clients (and your web browser which you are using to access these here forums).
See: You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry

How do I sign in to the server? I can’t find anything specifically related to the server anywhere in the Plex app or the web UI. There is nothing about servers in the settings listing. I have been through the reclaim server process, and there was no discernable change in anything despite all the reassuring messages from ClaimPMS4Win.

Please follow the orange link

OK, I have followed the instructions on the orange link again, and run ClaimPMS4Win again, and it reported it ran successfully again, and I still don’t see any option to log in to a server or claim a server, or any option that would suggest that Flex is aware there is a PMS running on my computer. What else can I try?

How do I set up a firewall rule for PMS?

All the Plex programs are set to Allow in the Norton Firewall.

Follow the steps in Server Logs on how to get them manually and upload them here.

I don’t have a ‘Manage’ option under ‘Settings’. I can’t find anything that says ‘Troubleshooting’, and I can’t find anything that says ‘Download Log Files’. However, I was able to find the Logs folder and I have zipped up the contents.
Logs.zip (1.1 MB)
I tried to upload them here but I can’t tell for sure if it worked.

Your Internet connection appears unstable, going offline for hours at a time.

From Plex Media Server.log:

You cannot claim a server unless it has an Internet connection. Part of the claiming process involves registering your server with hosts at plex.tv.

An Internet connection is required to claim a Plex Media Server.

When claiming a Plex Media Server, it will attempt to register itself with hosts at plex.tv. If it cannot do so, the claiming process will fail and the server will remain in an unclaimed state.

Reboot your modem/router and any other network equipment (switches, wifi extenders, etc).

If possible, connect your PC to the network via an Ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi.

Verify the interface is configured as Private, not Public.

  • Windows 10 Settings → Network & Internet.
  • Choose Properties if you need to change the setting.
  • Wi-Fi and Ethernet settings are independent of each other. Changing one does not change the other.

The interface is configured as private. How do I register my server with hosts at plex.tv? I haven’t seen that mentioned anywhere else.

Claiming the server takes care of the registration process. You do not have to do it as a separate task.

I edited my post. The original text was not clear about that.

OK. Since Plex doesn’t have a solution to my problem, can I just uninstall and start over? Are there any considerations to ensuring it is completely eradicated? I have had situations with other programs where there was some residual footprint hiding somewhere that remembered certain settings that interfered with doing a clean restart.

Sorry, lost track. Looking at your logs, it looks like Web is trying to connect to your server using it’s IPv6 address. Plex clients don’t really support IPv6 so I would turn that option off in your server settings. If you are using IPv6, I would also check your jumbo frames setting and not enable it. That will also affect accessing PMS.

Another thing is that your server is connected via WiFi. I suggest not using PMS on a WiFi connection. This is just asking for issues.

If you do want to start over, yes, Plex does leave stuff behind. Follow this guide to remove everything. Uninstall PMS
