Plex client doe not open (crashes)

The other day, plex stopped working on my TV.

Server is up-to-date, and works ( can still watch from my phone). My TV runs android, and it has 2025.16.0 plex client, which stops when I start it. Doesn’t even get the splash screen.

Any idea what to do? I’ve tried clearing cache, storage, etc…

Now also tried uninstalling and reinstalling plex client…

Ideas?

I wonder how you ended up with the new experience app on your Android TV. For all I know, this version is currently only available on mobile devices (with previews of the TV experience available only on Apple TV and Roku).

Would you mind sharing what device this is?

Many of those generic Android set top boxes don’t identify properly as Android TV.
Instead they behave like a mobile device. Which is the reason why they get the new app.
But the new app has no big screen mode yet.
A solution for this doesn’t exist yet, at last as long as the new app is also officially pushed to Android TV devices.

All you can do is to go back to the old app, by side loading.

Thanks - that works better (as in - at least it opens); but now to watch any show, I need to disable subtitles and change from original quality to convert automatically…

This isn’t the same user experience anywhere else, so seems to be an issue on the player.

Any ideas?
