Plex Client for SteamOS [a bit preemptive]

I'm going to go ahead and be preemptive here. If there is the possibility of a plex client being made for SteamOS I would be absolutely thrilled. I'm hoping that there is room in SteamOS for this kind of development. Let's stay tuned and see what Valve says about third party apps on the OS.

Seconded. I suspect SteamOS will become the go-to set top box OS for enthusiasts. With the release of solid hardware it could become a significant player outside its niche enthusiast market.

I hope the Devs seriously consider adding the SteamOS/SteamBox platform.

In another week the hardware will be announced, but the OS will be released for free in just a few days: http://store.steampowered.com/livingroom/SteamOS/

Sounds like it will be a Linux Distro so it will likely be a matter of just repackaging the existing Plex Linux Client.

It just depends on how streamlined the OS is for gaming I guess.

according to the announcement it will have media capabilities as well.

this made me think that there might be some wiggle room to get plex going on it.

My guess is that this is going to be a fork of ubuntu or debian because that was the first platform that they supported with steam for linux so that's likely where they were putting their energy to improve performance and refine it.  So I wouldn't be surprised if the current linux client would work out of the box with steamOS or at the very least take minimal changes to make it compatible.
