Plex Cloud - bandwidth requirements / issue

I uploaded a copy of last night’s Jimmy Fallon to my Amazon Storage to test, and started watching it. I checked and it was about 2000Kbps (2Mbps) plus the audio from the mediainfo, and my bandwidth from comcast that I checked after the issue was 170Mbps. After about 5 minutes, I got the message that my bandwidth wasn’t good enough to play the file. I then switched to just watching it on my TiVo.

My question then would be what’s the bandwidth that we can expect to get from the Plex servers? Is part of the beta testing the normal strain of this? Just wondering, it was just weird getting the error. I’ll mostly use the Amazon Cloud Server to share my recorded shows from my TiVo or HDHomeRun with family in case they miss it (or just as their DVR), or movies that I make for streaming with the family or while I’m out of the house.

Was the media being transcoded during Playback?
Transcoding will involve the Plex Cloud servers to deliver the media to you.
If you were using DIRECT PLAY then it is being streamed direct from Amazon Cloud Drive, similar to how CloudSync works.

For DIRECTPLAY content you can also test the speed of your connection by using the DOWNLOAD option in plex.tv/web. This will show you the speed you get from ACD directly.

It was being direct played. I just tested and the first time I tried to download it, it grabbed 5.2MB of the file and then I “lost network connection” but on the next two times downloading the file they downloaded at 18MBps.

Good to know it’s an Amazon/Comcast network issue and not a Plex issue. Thanks @hthighway.
