playback

why is it when i try to watch anything from plex on my amazon firebox i get the message not enough bandwidth to play anything can anyone give me a answer please
thanks

usually this could have 2 sources:

  1. the obvious one… I consider your firebox is connected wirelessly – you should check your local bandwidth to see if it’s sufficient for the media you’re about to stream. Same if you attempt to stream this from a remote server in which case the bandwidth of your cable/dsl provider comes to play (both for upload from the remote server and download on your client side)
  2. sometimes Plex misinterprets the PMS not getting content to the client fast enough as caused by low bandwidth. This sometimes happens if your PMS is hosted on a NAS and attempts to transcode your videos (e.g. if they’re all in a Codec supposedly not supported on your client – sometimes unsupported subtitle formats can cause the entire video to be transcoded in some server versions). – the Plex client should have an option to display how it’s attempting to playback the video and show if/what is being transcoded; usually including a message on the reason). Check out the Plex Client settings – while you’re on it… also check your direct play / direct stream settings on the client

These 2 situations described by @tom80H are both very possible. Please reproduce the problem, them provide logs from both PMS and and the Plex app on the Fire TV so we can examine them to find the cause.
