Plex Cloud Invites

I dont understand the excitement, hasn’t Amazon been shutting these accounts down due to large amounts of bandwidth downloading?

@benplace Not that I know about, but if you have any more info about that please share.

Nope. Amazon works fine. Google works even better right now. Where did you get that idea from that they are shutting down accounts due to Plex Cloud?

The Google drive accounts have been getting 24 hour locks due to massive initial indexing traffic for large collections. Large being something on the order of 10+ terabytes. It came up in another thread. It’s funny how a little piece of good information turns into complete misinformation.

People are very fond of spreading FUD…

agreed. I have a reasonably large amount of media stored in ACD served up by my dedicated server running plex using acd_cli and have not had any issues so far (touch wood)

Disclaimer - I am not in Plex Cloud beta yet!

There have been reports of a few Amazon locked accounts over the last few months - not specifically to do with Plex Cloud and from what little information is known they seem to tie in to large upload.

My ACD account also got locked a few weeks ago - I phoned up support and they unlocked it with no issue. I managed to get out of them that there was an un-disclosed 12TB/month upload FUP that got triggered. No idea if this is correct or not but there was another post on reddit last week where someone seems to have been told the same thing.

I guess if you have a large library and have “perform extensive media analysis” and / or create BIF thumbnail files it could be possible to trigger this limit.

I certainly will have triggered this limit. I have ~ 30TB on there and had performed an RCLONE copy from Amazon to a google drive as another backup a week before…

@garypower
Thanks for the info. I have got 2 ACD accounts, 1 US and 1 EU (once they bought the EU pricing inline with the US)

I did replicate my content from ACD US to ACD EU using acd_cli and thankfully didn’t get hit with that limit but I may have been marginally under 12 TB when I copied it :wink: But it’s good to know there is that limit.

no on Plex Cloud either but have used acd_cli with my ACD account and rclone with my google drive 55TB on each.

my ACD account has been locked 3 times in the past month I am assuming too many concurrent connections or too much bandwidth.

rclone works very well except plex’s scanner causes it to download every file when it scans to you hit your quota super fast and your files are locked for 24 hours.

Funny enough a few people have hit the 24 hour lock on Google, but no one in the beta has reported this happening with Amazon (yet). There is no denying that hitting the servers too hard might result in a temporary “ban” from either service, but but that doesn’t mean their accounts are shut down for good. I don’t have a huge library - about 7TB - and haven’t hit any limits on either platform so far.

I’m loving Plex Cloud more and more and can’t wait to switch off the HTPC for good… we’ll basically have our own private Netflix with content WE choose anywhere we go. Bring it on :smiley:

Still hoping for you guys to get in there soon too :slight_smile:

@per_PLEX_ed Yeah if only I could get in… this waiting game is getting painful since I signed up on day 1

How much does 30 TB of storage cost on Google Drive? Whenever I look at their pricing I find it to be prohibitive.

If you buy a domain and get Google Apps, the cost would be the cost of the domain plus $10/month for Google Apps. Officially they advertise you get 1TB if less than 5 users, but apparently they allow unlimited even with one account.

A cheaper but decidedly shady and dangerous option would be to buy an account on eBay for roughly $15 which is valid for a “lifetime” - but I guess the owner of the master account can delete it at any given moment, or Google might decide to shut them down if they are not following Google’s TOS. I would not recommend to use it for anything but a temporary test account.

As above, I am in the uk and the price for g-suite is £6.30 / month

Plex Cloud invites have begun going out, but they are happening in batches.

This is good to hear. I hope I get one :slight_smile:

I haven’t received an invite yet, but I’m curious if there’s a limit on how many remote users can connect to any one server? I have about 20 active user on my server now and wonder if that could be expanded to 100+?

You can only have 100 shared users using Plex (not just cloud), so 100+ will be a no. Currently there are no limits during the beta phase, but restrictions may be added once it is out of beta. Part of the beta is to test the load that will be capable.

@kinoCharlino @MovieFan.Plex

thanks for the info! great to hear things are moving along again. I’m fairly certain i didnt fill in the request form correctly so not holding alot of hope for an early invite even though i’d be a prime candidate (google drive 100gb sub, small collection of content and only share with one other user)

Cheers Rob.

If you didn’t get an invite in this batch, stay tuned as there will be more batches of invites going out.
