Plex connect not working after Apple TV sleep

here is something i found on the sleep problem

Owners of the third-generation Apple TV who have experienced Wi-Fi connectivity problems may be able to obtain a replacement from Apple, even if the device was purchased more than a year ago. According to 9to5Mac, which obtained documents sent to retail AppleCare employees, Apple has initiated a replacement program for the set-top box thanks to these Wi-Fi issues. The replacements will be available for free for up to two years after the original purchase date

The third-gen Apple TV was originally introduced in March of 2012 alongside the third-generation iPad, so the devices currently in people's homes are likely to be less than a year old. Still, according to the document issued this week, Apple says it has "determined that a very small number of Apple TV (3rd generation) products might experience one of these Wi-Fi related connectivity issues." The listed problems include an inability to locate a network, inability to join a network, and dropped or intermittent connections.

Technicians evaluating the devices will first verify that they're running software version 5.2.1, according to MacRumors, and will likely also determine whether there were third-party interference issues before offering a replacement.

If you're wondering whether your Apple TV qualifies, remember it's the 1080p version, not the 720p version. The serial numbers of potentially affected devices have these characters in the fourth and fifth positions: H9, HC, HD, HF, HG, HH, HJ, HK, HL, HM, HN, HP, HQ, HR, HT, HV, HW, HX, J1, J2, J3, J4, J5, J6, J7, J8, and J9. (The company initially said these would be in the third and fourth positions but has since corrected itself.) The last four letters of the serial number must be DRHN, according to Apple.

This happens on my ATV 2, as well. My drives are set to never spin down, but the ATV can’t connect to PlexConnect if it has gone to sleep. An ATV restart is required to get it working again. Interestingly, restarting the Mac that is running PlexConnect also gets it working as long as the ATV is awake at the time.

I have had this problem on my apple tv 2 yet. Just swapped out the apple tv 3. We will see what happens....

Ok have new Apple TV 3. Lets see what happens now.

it'll keep happening .. at my atv3 it does.

Don’t think this is a universal problem. I have an ATV 3 on 5.3 set to sleep after 15 min. My computer is an iMac on OSX 10.6.8 with hard drives set to spin down. I have never had a sleep related problem.

I’m on version 5.2.

The new apple tv 3 has the same problem.  My apple tv is on 5.3.  mac pro 1.1  drives spin down with snow leopard  .  But what i am seeing now on both ATV as i look more into this is that i loose net all the way around.  Movies, TV, iTunes Match, HBO Go, News all dont work till i reboot the ATV.  So i Dont think It a plex thing..   I have set the IP's. no change. I have let the ATV pick it ip. no change.

How is your router/network set up? How does the ATV connect to the network?

Do you have “wake for network access” set in Energy Saver preferences in system preferences?

i have same problem on atv 3 5.3 too, imac 27" mid 2011 10.8.4

atv connected to network by ethernet (to network extender) and imac by wifi.

Do you have "wake for network access" set in Energy Saver preferences in system preferences?

it's checked

yes

How is your router/network set up? How does the ATV connect to the network?

apple air port extreme.  set up from factory. i have change anything.  wifi is how ATV is connected

Via wifi or Ethernet?

Via wifi or Ethernet?

wifi

Well Jamie, I am at a loss as your set up is similar to mine, except you have a router that should be MORE compatible than the one I use.

I thought maybe it might be an Ethernet issue, as there have been issues with Ethernet and the ATV, but that is not the case here.

The ‘loss of internet’ coud be related to PlexConnect as it still relies on the PlexConnect DNS server to resolve the entries for the other applications.

Given the very low power consumption off the ATV I would suggest not letting it sleep until after we add MyPlex support and then we will look at the issue again.

Of course if you can determine what is happening in the meantime then great.

Also have this problem; after ATV sleep I need to reboot the ATV to work with PlexConnect.

Mac: Plex Media Server, PlexConnect, wifi, no disk sleep or computer sleep.

ATV: latest version of PlexConnect, wifi, sleep after 15 minutes.

Will try to turn of the sleep on the ATV and see if that helps.

Question - I might have missed that part: Is this issue happeing only to Plex/PlexConnect or is your whole aTV setup affected (ie. does the native Youtube/Vimeo/Apple's rent a movie App work as before)?

When I turn on the Apple TV I will go in to the movie section and it sit there saying connecting to iTunes. If I go into the hbo go tab same. Same for espn. Same for te news. But YouTube does work. Music works. TV tab just sit there connecting to iTunes.

For me, only the Trailers app (i.e., PlexConnect) stops working; YouTube, Vimeo, and Netflix work fine. If it matters, I’m using Snow Leopard Server’s DNS server rather than PlexConnect’s. Seems to be happening with both configurations.
