Wondering if it is possible to run plex connect to the ATV3 with no internet connection. After activation, if the apple tv loses connection I lose all the icons. I am currently without a constant connection so I dont need the internet except to update the library. Is it possible to spoof the apple tv so I can at least get the trailers icon to show up instead of just the setting and home sharing?
Is it possible to spoof what ever appletv is pinging wiith a fake DNS server

The first thing aTV requests is the "bag.xml" (?), which kind of contains the configuration of the home screen (see added Festival/Presentation channels at times). This one is unfortunately pulled in encrypted... so it can't be easily faked.
If your aTV is unable to receive this, it will not show any app icons (other than computers+settings). And there will be no chance to reuse the trailers or any other one.

Thank you for the feedback. Thats what I figured. I have been trying to see what site or server it pulled but if it was that easy, it would be JB'd by now. For the time being I am just stuck with VLC until I get back to my home setup. I tried to capture packet data but no joy(to be fair it was a lazy effort because of encryption) .back to two icons so I know its possible, it's just that d@!@ verification ping.
