This is my very first post here.
After numerous attempts I finally setup plexconnect on my atv and had it working flawlessly. At first I thought plexconnect would work on local Networks and bought a good router with me and setup everything, but then I found out that internet is requires for atv.
So my only option at that time was my mobile’s hotspot I used it to setup everything initially and then I tried to switch to my network and everything just worked fine. I was able to access my library over the local network.
After few hours i again turned on my atv but to my disappointment it did not work over my LAN. Then it struck me to connect again via mobile hotspot and immediately switch over to LAN I was able to browse and play my movies fine.
Not sure if this an old news. But just wanted to share it.
It's an aTV issue - it needs access to the internet in order to set up the icons.
Unless you got an aTV2 (jailbroken) - you should be able to add a (more permanent) PlexConnect there. But I am not 100% on that...
Yea that’s how it works . I have an atv 3 but even after the internet connection was lost and the the network was changed the atv still managed to access the libraries this is what got me curious. If there is no internet connection it should not display the icons right? Any idea how this works??
This is how it works. When you have internet and plexconnect running on say a PC, your aTV if setup properly loads all of it’s icons and allow plexconnect to work since plexconnect just hijacks one specific app/URL at a time. If you disconnect your ISP, router, PC but leave your aTV on it will still have all of it’s icons since it has already reached out to apple servers once to load all of it’s icons once already but it will not work. Now if you just disconnected your ISP and left your PC and router hooked up you could still use plexconnect locally as in your local content since it already has reached out to apple as well. The only exception to this rule is if you have a jailbroken atv2 that has plexconnect running on it all the time since it has a permanent plexconnect icon on it all the time and does not need to reach out to apple to load plexconnect since baa developed a way to trick the aTV into looking at itself to keep the icon there all the time. This is why when you hook up a hotspot but then shut it off it still works locally since your aTV has a temporary ISP and loads it icons until you lose power, reset or update your plexconnect host.
Thanks mate. I Got it.
