starting ATV3 without internet access

It seems my ATV3 does some sort of checking for active internet access when it first boots. If not available it only presents 2 icons for local computers and settings I believe. Since PlexConnect is already hijacking trailers.apple.com, I’m wondering if there’s an additional mechanism that could be added to trick the Apple TV into thinking it has internet access for the purpose of enabling the trailers app to access Plex on the local network while offline.

I haven’t been able to find any info online or gotten around capturing network packets myself and see what it’s actually doing. Anybody happen to have any info?

When you boot the ATV3 it needs internet connection, so that the trailers app is enabled, and PlexConnect can intercept it. You can then disconnect the internet, if you whish, but if you reboot the ATV you need internet connection again.

You can use a smartphone to create an access point momentarily, if needed.
