Plex constant crashes on iPad

Plex on iPad crashes several times an hour. Sometimes. Today it has been horrendous. Why? Help!

Same here

Can you each please post the iOS version, iPad model, and Plex app version?

Same problem for me. I have been using Plex for about a month now, and it’s been this way since the start. I use the Plex app designed for IOS devices.

I tend to treat it like a TV, so I’ll set either a TV series or a playlist of films up, press play, and have it on in the background while I do other things. The app will take anywhere from 20 mins to 2 hours for me before it crashes.

When it does, it exits back to the home screen of the IPad. When I reopen the Plex app, its gone back to the main screen, and I have to re-select from the deck whatever it was I was watching. Sometimes it remembers where I was up to in the film/episode, and sometimes it has skipped right to the end of the episode so I then have to scan back through and find my place. Set it away again, starts working fine…20 mins to 2 hours later, it’s repeating the same issue. As I’ve only just started using Plex, this doesn’t seem to be an update issue for me - it’s been doing it right from the first day I downloaded the app.

I’m not one of the previous 2 posters, but my info is as follows:

iPad Air 3rd gen (2019)

IOS 13.3

Plex IOS app version 6.7.1

Would appreciate any help anyone can give, this problem is driving me mad!

+1, ios 13.3, ipad air 2, plex app version 6.7.2

I think logs are needed from the app at least:

email the zip file to yourself and then post it here.

If you can also post PMS logs that cover the time of the crash, that would probably helpful as well. Make sure debug is ON and verbose is OFF

Same for me. Any time I play a file, when I try to play another, the server disconnects. Have to restart the server

iOS logs attached. I also went onto the web app to get the PMS logs, but every time I click the ā€˜download logs’ button, I get an internal server error message so have been unable to access them. I have been doing this from my iPad as it’s the only device I currently have access to, I can try from my laptop tomorrow. I have no idea if this crashing issue happens on the web app or not, as I’ve never tried it to see, but it’s definitely an issue with the iOS app. I would love any advice/help with this, it’s literally just happened to me again about 10 mins ago. It’s multiple times a day, and it happens every single time I use the Plex app. PlexDebugInfo-rach-jackson-92@hotmail.co.uk-6.7.2-19315 (2020-02-09 21.11.59 0000).zip (2.2 MB)

I’m having the same/similar issues on my iPad. The app crashes immediately if I try to launch it. If I force quit and try to launch again, sometimes I can get it stuck on the splash screen a bit before it crashes.

I followed the instructions in the iOS Logs support page to try and find the crash log under the Analytics Data, but can’t find any log that starts with ā€œPlex_ā€ (or anything that looks like it may belong to Plex).

Running iOS (or iPadOS) 13.3.1; Plex App v. 6.7.2.

It’s much easier to email them to yourself and then post them here.

Is that an option if I can’t launch the app? It crashes 100% of the time on launch and reading through the instructions, I can’t see any way of getting iOS logs aside from opening the app, the iOS settings menu, or installing iTunes (which I would prefer not to do).

So deleting and reinstalling the app fixed the crash-on-launch issue. I’m not sure if the logs are useful anymore now that I can no longer reproduce it with the fresh install, but I’ve attached them anyway.

Any news about this crash ? I’m on Ipad 2019, a brand new that i use nearly only for Plex and the app crash 50% of the time around 1h of use. And if i let it run for 2h or 3h, be sure i see at least 1 crash.

Why don’t the dev jsut let run a basic iPad running for 4h ? i can bet they will see a crash too. At least one, probably more.

I have latest update on Ipad and plex server. Everything up to date everywhere.

Any updates on this? It’s still happening to me multiple times every single day. The main reason why I got Plex in the first place was so that I could watch movies on my IPad. The constant crashes which have literally gone on for months now, ever since I purchased the iPad, are really making that impossible.

I’m having the same issueiPad Pro 9.7inch iPad OS 13.4 latest Plex app downloaded from the App Store - constantly crashes on start up.

Could you follow the steps in the Crash Logs from iOS section of this link iOS Logs | Plex Support and send the crash reports to me?

It’s important to do the steps from Crash Logs from iOS specifically, since only those specific Crash Logs will have info about the crash :crossed_fingers:

If you can’t find crash logs following those steps, try in your phone going to iOS settings → Privacy → Analytics & Improvements → Analytics Data and look for any entry starting with PlexMobile- that matches the date where you experienced crashes, and share them with me.

Hopefully by doing that we can find the reason for this crash :fearful:

what’s the point in continually sending logs? TVOS and iOS have problems with Plex and just use the iPad and Apple TV to account for it. Why ask users?

I’m having the exact same issue on my iPad. Any resolution?

I am having the same issue as well - this happens randomly, Plex just shuts down on my IPAD and then I have to log back in. Doesn’t happen when I play on any other device. I have deleted the Plex app and reinstalled, changed the Playback modes etc. Nothing seems to work.

When I go back into Plex to watch a show, the show starts back about 5 minutes prior to crash - not where it left off. The buffering does not stutter before crashing …

I have same expirence.
Using lastet ios and plex app with same content sync via (video) playlists.

During the view of non synced content randomly ios app crashes. In many cases it is close to the end of the video (last 5min).
