Plex conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error

Server Version#: 1.23.4.4805
Player Version#: 4.60.3

Hi all,

I recently upgraded my 2018 Mac Mini to MacOS Monterey Beta (version 12). After the upgrade, I can’t play anything if the video or audio needs to be transcoded. So far, I’ve been seeing issues with IOS/iPad OS devices, where almost nothing will play unless the audio is originally AAC.

When I try to play something on my iPad or Macbook, it’ll spin for a minute or so, then give me the error, “Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error.”

I’m able to play everything on my TV (directly connected to the Mac mini server via ethernet) since everything can play as direct stream (no conversion necessary).

I can’t seem to find any path to fix this, and any help is super appreciated :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks all,

I’m having the same issue. I’m using a Mac mini for the server and everything plays fine on all my devices EXCEPT for my Apple TV. I get the “Something went wrong playing your media. Please try again. Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error” message every time. Every movie. Why is this only happening on the Apple TV and how has no one solved this issue yet?!

From what I see, it seems to happen if something needs to be transcoded. So when I try to play stuff on Apple devices, since it needs to use AAC audio but the audio is actually EAC or something, then it needs to be transcoded. However, the transcoder just fails and I can’t figure out why.

Same here with public beta 3

I am having the same problem after upgrading to Monterey Beta 12.0

@razorj7 I have more or less the same problem. Did you try to switch off subtitles? That made things work for me, only thing is I really like my subtitles…
