This has been going on for a while. Some of my videos crash my plex clients. I’ve tried it on PHT, Roku, and IOS clients. Crashes when I play local on PMS also. I’ve captured a the log and I have a pretty good idea what may be going on here. But I wanted to get an opinion from you Ninja Guys to see if I am right. I won’t state my opinion yet. I don’t want to influence you diagnosis.
Update:
Well… I was gonna say my hard drive was going bad. That’s wasn’t it. I installed a fresh PMS on a different Mac and attached the to the same drive. Same problem.
Then moved the media file to a new LOCAL library on the the new Mac. Same problem.
One might think I just got a bad media file. But it’s happening on nearly half of my TV library. Always on MKV format files.
Tonight I will perform the same tests on a fresh Windows PMS install.
Bump. I seem to find a lot of threads from people with the same issue. Can I help duplicate this so we can get a fix?
The logs clearly state that it could not read the file. It might be that your drive is going bad and has started corrupting your files. Corrupted files are very common when drives go bad. Have you tried playing the file using another video player?
I guess I should download a new copy of the file into the new drive and see if that fixes it. I assumed that if I could successfully copy the file that it must not be a drive issue. But your, right, it could be a corruption issue.
The issue is solved. I obviously have an HDD drive going bad. The file was corrupt in some way. I redownloaded it from the source onto a new drive and the issue is resolved. I guess there is a new HDD in my future.
Glad you got it sorted, too bad for the corrupted files.
