Plex crashes immediately

Server Version#:1.30
Player Version#:

I’ve had this problem for months with every new server update and even trying as many old server versions as i could find. I was able to trouble shoot this issue by using Restart On Crash and I could eventually get the server to stop crashing. Then any time I restarted my computer, same issue but eventually Restart On Crash would make it work again. Now after Months of this the server won’t work at all, crashes forever no matter how long I run Restart on crash. The issue seems to be Tidal related, I think. When I open the server the activity immediately says “Adding to Library: Moving files” and then crashes right away. I have tried unlinking my Tidal account and many other things, with no success. I have recently switched to Jellyfin and that works great, but I have a Lifetime pass with Plex, have been using it for over 10 years and much prefer it to Jellyfin. Someone please hep me get my Plex back! TIA

I would try to start the server and after it crashes gather your logs

Since you can’t start the server, you’ll probably have to manually gather the server logs <-click

Zip them and drop them here with your next post

Logs.zip (23.3 MB)

Looks like crash is being caused by trying to add something from Tidal and failing. I’ll report this to the team. If this worked before I would suggest rolling back to 1.29.2.

Yeah, its been happening for months on many different server versions. Ive tried rolling back to every version in the last year with no success. Crashes immediately, same thing

Ok thanks. Until a cause and fix can be released, would you be willing to send me your Plex database? I can try to remove the offending entry from your database so it will stop trying to do this. You can PM me a zipped version. If it’s too large to attach, upload it to a cloud storage like Google Drive and PM me the link.

For sure, how do I go about getting that?

This will save a zipped database to your browser’s default download folder.

Not sure how I can do that since the server crashes immediately, within seconds. Is there another way to get that?

I don’t know what OS you’re on but the full path for a Windows machine would be

C:\Users\ComputerName\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases

I found uploaded crash reports from November

Could you look for this file in the %TEMP% directory and zip and attach

I expect the temp directory to be set to
C:\Users\deang\AppData\Local\Temp

The file to look for has name
3e28af27-18bb-41ab-8b2b-21986410d606

please zip and attach

For the database files - they would be these files
Folder:
C:\Users\deang\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\\Plug-in Support\Databases
Files:
com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-shm
com.plexapp.plugins.library.db-wal

The last 2 files would not be present if db shutdown normally

3e28af27-18bb-41ab-8b2b-21986410d606.zip (29.8 KB)

I sent my databases in a PM

Thank You

I would not mind more dmp files from %TEMP% if they are still around
eg

6a4d086f-151d-4d55-ba0c-2b6623fd55bc.dmp
657f4f81-2698-4f64-aa65-1d8d4d9f09f3.dmp

and any others with similar filenames created between Dec 03, 2022 20:15:22 and 20:48:14

bc3902d8132f43e3ae086a009979fa88.zip (157.5 KB)
I think this is all of them

Thanks - yes they are all the same. Thank You

Anybody have any solutions for this yet?

We are unable to reproduce at the moment - I am going to edit your database to remove references to the two Tidal albums and see if that stops the crashes

I sent you the edited database

It appears that the problem is to do with deleting and recreating a music library that had links to Tidal music albums before the deletion

A fix for this was released yesterday in Plex Media Server beta 1.30.2.6563

  • (Library) Unprocessed Add to Library items can crash the server on startup if the original library section no longer exists (#14022)
