Tidal causing crashing

Just installed this this morning and it looks like as soon as a scan of some sort starts it crashes. Appears to be music related - I have none locally, only using Tidal. I’ve downgraded back to the previous latest beta.

I’ll post logs as well, but here’s a snippet from the crash.

It appears to be Tidal integration or something is broken. I can spin up Plex after I’ve disabled Music integration.

This is still occurring on 1.30.1.6483. As soon as I enable the Music media source Plex goes to scan and add a movie for some reason, then the server instantly crashes.

Back to 1.29.2 – and confirm everything is stable again?

I’m not sure what’s causing the problem. Downgraded to 1.29.2 and as soon as I enabled music and did a library scan, it does the same thing - looks like it’s trying to add a movie to the library then crashes.

No clue where the problem is or why this is related to Tidal, it did work before - I’ll try removing the artists that the logs complain about.

Ok, taking a shot in the dark. I went back up to the latest again and removed “Luna Obscura” and had already removed “Ben Moody” from my Tidal account. Now when doing a library scan on the music library, it is done in a split second and hasn’t crashed as of yet. It doesn’t try to “add movie to library”, from the logs I assume it was trying to add one or both of these artists and they don’t exist on Plex’s end which may have caused the crash? (these artists exist on Tidal’s end… there’s some discrepancies between Plex and Tidal).

I spent hours originally trying to add my Tidal artists to Plex and it was a nightmare and I know some of them just would not add, so maybe this was an issue that was a long time coming.

I’ll leave it running for the time being just to be sure but apparently Plex realllllly doesn’t like Ben Moody or Luna Obscura :frowning:

Just woke up, apologize if my thought process doesn’t make sense.

Correction It just crashed again. I’ll downgrade and see if it happens again.

Unfortunately still crashing on 1.29.2, only remains running if Music is disabled. Hopefully it’s captured in the logs.

No idea what’s changed, I’ve had Tidal enabled since I subscribed to it (several months), there’s absolutely no music locally on my server and regular movie and library scans work fine, so I’m not sure what this movie is it’s trying to add or what it’s trying to do.

I suppose this isn’t a total loss since Atmos for music doesn’t work through Plex anyway hint hint, but I’d still like to know why this is suddenly an issue for my system. I could remove all of the artists that the logs mention, but I don’t realistically think that’ll do anything since it hasn’t yet.

Any ideas?

Took another shot in the dark and removed my own personal Music library from Plex (just an empty folder call Music just for the sake of being able to create a library to “Add to Plex”) to see if it trying to update artists was causing the issue, negative. The server just continues to crash just having the Tidal media source enabled.

Hmm… well either there’s an issue specific to my system/network or no one else uses Tidal with Plex… Searching the forum I’m not seeing any other issues like this.

@ChuckPa Any other suggestions? Since the issue is still present in 1.29.2 I’ve since gone back up to 1.30.2. I can’t see any rhyme or reason why Tidal has suddenly become an issue for my server.

Looks like this isn’t so much a Tidal issue as it is a 1.30.1 issue.

I’ve gotten reports of 1.30.1 crashing with and without Tidal.

The general consensus so far is it happens during Scheduled Tasks.
I’ve not yet been able to reproduce but do have a QNAP dedicated to this.

Thank you for the update.

It’s odd because my server doesn’t crash at all unless I have Tidal enabled and it crashes within a few hours of it being enabled - unless a scheduled task just coincidentally ran on that same day each day I’ve tried to re-enable it. The issue was also present as I said in 1.29.2, so to me it can’t be just an issue with 1.30.1.

With it now disabled, I’ll let the server run for 3 days and see if scheduled tasks are affecting me as well, but I don’t think this is the case.

Just let me know if there’s anything more I can provide - this has been very easy for me to reproduce.

WHen you next find it to have crashed, IF, before you startup, you can get (make zips/tar.gz ) of ?

  1. The dmp file in “Crash Reports” (it will send that to Plex.tv at startup. We want it now)
  2. The logs which accompany that DMP file

No problem, I’ll set up a day in the next couple of days before I leave town for the holidays to close my firewall port for PMS so I can enable Tidal and instigate a crash, once done I’ll collect the crash dmp and associated logs and pass them along.

I believe scheduled tasks ran last night, I had a db backup notification on my phone from last night and the server was still alive and well when I checked it this morning.

Well…I really don’t know what to say. My server has been up and crash free with Tidal enabled for over 24hrs. I had scheduled tasks set for during the day 0900-1000 and it did seem to kick off with no crash. I had previously deleted my personal Music library thinking that may have been a culprit - but today I rebuilt it and went through the pain of re-adding my Tidal artists to that PMS library, still buggy as Hell, but I did finally finish it and still no crash. Though I have yet to “upgrade” my music library, will do that shortly.

Will leave the server running as-is until Monday when I head out of town for the holidays to see if there’s a crash, if not all I can do is simply assume there was something on the backend either between Plex or Tidal that was causing my issue, because without fail before I made this post within hours of enabling Tidal the server would crash. I’m once again at a loss.

On an unrelated note… sort of. Apparently the Plex music agent doesn’t know who Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is or any classical musician for that matter lol. I have 345 Tidal artists, and only 329 could be successfully added to Plex. Most of the artists that weren’t added were either not very “well known” (yet their on Tidal), or classical historic artists. Really wishing what Plex’s music agent has and what Tidal has were in sync.
