I use plex on ps4, ps3, android, ipad. Recently i noticed issues with ps3.
Plex ps3 loads up fine, but when i play a film, i just get back screen, with title and playback controls visable on screen but it completely freezes the console. Cant use the playback controls, or exit the app, can’t force exit to home screen or anything. All i can do is hard resest console at plug.
Not problems on other devices, just PS3. Uninstalled and reinstalled plex just incase, but didnt help, and fully updated PS3 firmware, but that didn’t help either.
I have been viewing content via PS3 Plex on a 1080p screen.
I am using these settings on the PS3 Plex App and it’s running well enough:
Video Settings
Local Quality 4Mbps 720p
Remote Quality 4Mbps 720p
Online Quality 4Mbps 720p
Allow Direct Play Disabled
Allow Direct Stream Enabled
Maximum H.264 Level 4.0
When I stream to PS3, the Plex server indicates that it has engaged hardware transcoding for the video stream, but uses software transcoding for the audio. A Plex Pass and compatible hardware are required in order to engage hardware transcoding. Hardware transcoding can be enabled in the Plex server settings (SETTINGS > Transcoder > Use hardware acceleration when available).
My video files are stored in Matroska format (.mkv).

Best advice would be to just not use Plex on ps3. It’s horribly outdated and can’t handle much and not supported by Plex updates anymore really so I would just not even bother with it.
