Server Version#: 1.18.2.2058
Player Version#: 4.8.4
I’ve looked around the web and forums, but haven’t found anything specific to this (so far - still researching)
Just for some background. I’m running PMP on a Linux Mint box (v19.1, 16GB RAM, Intel Xeon E31230 CPU@ 3.20GHz × 8) using Mate and PMP is the ONLY thing running on that box, and the CPU/RAM usage barely bumps. The library files are on a Synology DS1511+ NAS and both are hooked up thru/to a Meraki MS220-8P-HW switch, so…
My issue is that after watching a movie, if I go to watch a 2nd movie, Plex crashes (movie stops playing, Plex seems to ‘refresh’ and goes back to home screen after about 20-30secs). I’ve had this happen with some TV episodes as well, but not always/often (maybe after the 4th or 5th episode).
I don’t have a lot of traffic on my network other than my son’s PC (which he’s not on much) and I even changed/swapped out network cables (upgraded to cat6), so was wondering if anyone had some troubleshooting guru steps to check/try (or advise if this is a known issue)
So looks like after more searching, I should have stated from the onset that I’m using a Fire Stick, which up until I think the 2nd or 3rd last Plex update, worked like a charm, but it’s on this unit that the crashes are occurring.
I’m currently looking into purchasing an actual Android box, but still feel there’s a glitch/issue as far as the updates (at least this seems logical, as beyond swapping out cables, I’ve changed nothing as far as my network/hardware setup for over the past year) and I’ve never had this issue before.
If the Fire Stick is a known issue, then that could make sense, in which case I’ll either wait until there’s an App update, or just drop the $ on a box.
Just wanted to add/update the post in case someone had any other thots.
Cheers and thanks again for any replies in advance.
There are reports of problems with the Amazon devices.
I am not on that team so don’t know what they are. I am working in a few threads where, in one thread, the fire-tv player doesn’t respect autoplay on/off. Not having one of those devices, I can’t investigate further.
I do have: AppleTV 4K, Shield Pro 2019, legacy Roku 3, and a newer ChromeCast.
I don’t have any application crashes on any of those devices.
I can confirm there seems to be a known issue with the newest Plex player and the Fire Stick, as it’s been noted in multiple threads (here and other forums).
Right now the ‘workaround’ ppl are doing is reverting back to the old player (Fire Stick>Plex App> Settings/Advanced>Enable new player ‘No’) until there’s a proper fix/update.
I guess I should clarify, it’s the Firestick that crashes, NOT the server.
Case in point, I’m watching a show with the Firestick and it crashes when I try to play a 2and movie, but my friend is watching movies at the same time at his house on his android box (as well as my other friend on her laptop) and even tho Plex ‘crashes’ on my Firestick, they have NO issues (no crashes, no hiccups, not even the smallest glitch), so again, it’s not affecting the server in any way.
I’ve checked other forums and other ppl with Firesticks have stated Plex crashes, and the one thing they’ve done is disable the new player - on the Firestick.
