Plex Crashing to “Desktop” on Apple TV

Same here. Even Version 7.14 contains this bug. :slightly_frowning_face:

On My Apple TV 4k Plex crashes right back to home screen. Started happening yesterday. Restarted system, forced quite etc. Unusable now.

Sorry didn’t see this. Thanks for report.

This has been going on for weeks, has Plex even acknowledged this? Literally everyone that has an Apple TV is experiencing this.

I replied just above your post.

Oof guess I should read the titles. Thanks.

This looks like it is a bug and there doesnt seem to be a workaround other than what has been mentioned before:

If I change the display / filter option at the DVR landing page to “Episode” instead of “TV Shows,” then I can scroll through all of the episodes of all of the shows I’ve recorded

Hopefully, it will be fixed in a future version.

You can’t fix it. It is a bug.

A “bug” means there’s a problem in the software – not in your setup.
Plex needs to fix the bug. This will be part of a future update for the Plex Media Server. Nothing you can do, no additional details you can provide and no use to start opening yet another thread (which I’m going to close). You just need to be patient.

I saw that 7.14 was released today and was hopeful the issue would be addressed there, but still occurring.

As this problem seems to only show up on Apple TV clients, I don’t think any updates to Plex Media Server will fix it.

I am having the same problem and I am reasonably certain the problem is how the Apple TV client handles bad metadata. When you go to scroll down to the seasons is the point at which the UI goes to load the metadata like the “Cast” photos and such. In my case the show I am having a problem with has no pictures for the cast when I scroll down on other clients. I haven’t yet delved into the metadata itself but it really shouldn’t matter. I think the problem is just that the Apple TV client isn’t coded well enough to handle errors with the metadata it is trying to read. That’s my best guess anyway and I don’t think anyone but Plex can fix it. Let’s hope they do

An update since my original report on March 3rd: my issue is no longer present. I have version 7.13 (22846) on AppleTV 4K (I regret not noting the version when I first reported the problem here.) I can now navigate to Seasons on all of my recorded shows and the app no longer crashes / returns to the Apple TV home screen.

Interesting, I tried again after reading your post and I’m still having the same issue. Glad. yours was able to resolve itself.

I also have this problem :pensive:
Do you know when this problem will be fixed?
And you know how you fixed it for yourself?

Mine is still crashing and I’ve tried about 5 different tv shows.

I’m running my server on a 27” iMac, and sending to an Apple TV HD.

Even deleted my account, loosing my PLEX Pass, and then created a new account to try to get it to work with no luck.

Is happening only on the Apple TV app. Looks like a bug. Provably the best is to report to support and wait for an update.
In the meantime, if you browse TV Shows by “Recommended” tab, you can see episodes listed. Not the best but it can help.

Yes, thats what I’ve been doing, thanks vignolo

I am also having that issue.

As suggested, navigating through the “Recommended” tab can work as a workaround in the meantime

For everyone here receiving the notifications; There is a new version available, for Applet TV, that fix this issue.
I have tested it and now works ok.
