I am adding personal audio media to my Plex media server that isn’t and couldn’t be fetched from the internet. I have been meticulous about tagging my media using MP3tag for Windows. I added about a dozen tracks to an album. Using Plex settings to use local tags they all added as I would expect. When I went to add more tracks, using the same tags so that each media item would be added as later tracks in the same album, Plex tends to create a new “album” per new track that was added after the initial import. I have replaced my original files, refreshed media data, all the options given from the Manage Media options. The only thing that fixes my issue is to delete the media from the server and scan all files after uploading everything fresh. Then Plex sees they are all the same “album” and organizes the files form tags as I have set the library to. Anyone else notice this problem?
I think it’s the last remnant of a problem that used to be much worse. There were several situations in the past which required the steps you found (moving tracks away from the monitored folder, scanning, moving them back, and scanning again) to fix. Those problems were so common that the process gained a name, the “Plex Dance.”
Most of those issues were fixed, so the Dance is rarely needed anymore, but I’ve found that it is still needed if a file is renamed, or added to an existing album.
Hmmm interesting. I’ll continue to dance until I notice the issue is resolved. Thanks for the reply!
