Yep using a roku ultra with Plex preview and the normal Plex app. Media Server Version 1.20.0.3133. Whether I’m watching movies and tv shows, everything cuts off early. Tried both apps. I have to replay and fast forward to watch the remainder of what I haven’t seen yet. If this is supposed to be a feature, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, please just stop it entirely.
I too am having the early cut-off of transoding video to my Insignia Roku TV. Just posting to confirm this is a real problem with the Roku platform. I just set my buffer to 15 and moved Quality to prefer higher speed encoding. I had not been paying attention to the pausing of shows so will keep that in mind in the future, but it’s my poor wife who bears the brunt of the early cutoffs! Will see if the transcoder adjustments do the trick and report back.
Also a problem on Samsung TVs. Direct play. Happens with no pause/resume. Its been going on for months now.
Edit: Issue is resolved by turning off direct play. Obviously a completely undesirable work around.
@ljunkie I see you post the release announcements and have helped in other issue threads. Can we please get some help on this? @Ridley came in to request logs, but that account seems to have gone inactive
edit: @DaveBinM just tagging whoever I see badged as an employee in recent threads. sorry
For me this seems to be related to having the subtitles set to always burn. I prefer to have always burn enabled because sometimes if it is not the subtitles can lag and get out of sync on Roku. But I have found if I do disable it I never have the issue of the episodes ending early and then if I reenable that option sometimes episodes will start ending early again.
@mostlyhuman I can confirm that enabling burned-in subtitles mid-play does cause the issue for me if I’m more than a few minutes into playback; which makes sense because in doing that, plex is effectively starting transcoded playback from an offset, and for me, that seems to be the underlying cause of all of this. Does playback cutoff if you select/enable your subtitle stream and play from the beginning without any seeking?
Disabling direct play didn’t seem to fix it. It is intermittent now but pause/resume/subtitles make no difference.
The first report of this issue I can find on the forums is from Nov 2019; the lack of attention/support after 9+ months is really disappointing. I’ve probably been using plex for a decade and have a lifetime plex pass, but I’m testing out emby and jellyfin at this point.
I think for me it seems to happen if I started the video on another client and try to Continue Watching on the roku. Its pretty consistent.
Still happening for me, been doing this for a while too.
Keep this thread alive by keep posting, otherwise it might get archived.
This has been a bug plaguing Plex for years on multiple platforms that you can find on Google all over the place…
This is an issue with the Plex app on my Samsung TV (2018 model, Tizen). It happens fairly regularly near the end of a video.
@buck2202 & @mostlyhuman, I believe this is the cause of my issues too. I recently started burning subtitles on shows during playback around the same time the early ending of shows began.
@DaveBinM @BigWheel @mikec_pt @ljunkie
just tagging people badged as employees recently active in other threads. can someone please help?
Yep. still a problem. I just rebuilt my PMS from scratch and the issue still occurs consistently on any transcoded stream that’s resumed midway after being stopped or enabling subs. Now running Ubuntu 20 and PMS 1.20.2.3402
It would be super to get this one put to bed. I’ve already shared logs and media samples above as have others but I can do it again if staff needs additional info.
This happens on all three of my Samsung smart TVs. It would be nice to get a fix soon.
Same issue. Only when transcoding audio and video to Roku Stick + 4K (H.265 + AAC).
I’m not active in the forums, but I’m a little disappointed to see the lack of engagement from the Plex team on an issue that seems to be affecting a large amount of users, many of whom have put in a lot of effort and have provided extensive data to help the Plex team uncover the root cause. I’m sure you’re busy (we all are), but an acknowledgement or update would take just a few minutes to write and would at least let folks know the issue isn’t being ignored or their concerns marginalized.
Just my two cents.
Same problem for me occurs on my roku 3. Ends exactly at 3 minutes from the end. I have all my TV content in h.265.
Tried all combinations and the buffer settings. I can reproduce this 100% of the time with a show I watch. I’m close to adding 5 min of blank space at the end of my shows to work around this. Roku tv 1080 is the one doing it. I’m assuming it’s specific to the roku.
