Same issue for me on Roku Ultra. This has been an ongoing problem for some time now and it’s pretty widespread. Can SOMEONE at Plex please address this? @elan
I can reproduce this every time… Watching an episode of Game of Thrones from MKV files. I watch until the Dothraki start speaking in their language. I pause the show, and enable the second subtitle file (the forced subtitles). I then back up to the start of the Dothraki scene, and play the show from there. It will ALWAYS cut off early.
Thanks for the info. We are looking for ways to reproduce this without much luck. It’s technically good news if you can reproduce this every time, which should help identify the underlying issue.
Can you confirm if you have HW transcoding enabled or not?
I was also having this issue repeatedly last night transcoding a ~12Mbps HEVC video with HW to ~25Mbps on my roku w/ subs. I would start the show, pause immediately, change the audio and subtitle tracks, and skip the intro. It would then cut to the next episode usually near the end, but sometimes halfway through.
I have experienced the exact same behavior (same show, etc) as jhrenry6_2_cox_net. I do not have HW transcoding. In my case, I’m watching local so there’s no transcoding, however I do have CPU transcoding when needed.
In my case, “Use hardware acceleration when available” is not selected.
Hi all. We have finally been able to reproduce this consistently. We have identified the cause and the good news is that we should have a workaround in the client coming to the preview app by next week. The workaround will cause a short rebuffer when you would have normally experience the early ending. We’ll be investigating a proper fix, which will most likely entail some server changes.
This is great news. It’s been around 10 months since I made the original post and I’m glad to see it’s being recognized as a real issue. I’m looking forward to a permanent solution being implemented server side. Please keep us posted
We have published a preview release, v6.7.0 with the client workaround.
@ljunkie are you guys aware that this is happening with all other sort of devices also?
I’ve been getting on two different Samsung smartvs (one released in 2012 and other brand new).
Also theres a lot of people reporting the issue on xbox and playstation players.
Still getting this issue on my Roku Ultra. It almost seems random but happens often enough it’s annoying. Have to go back and FF to where it cut off- usually around 3 to 5 min left in the episode.
This is crap. I paid for Plex and it has had this problem for years. Never a fix.
So the client workaround is kinda working but has issues. It’s no longer stopping but instead it pauses and buffers (for me about 5 seconds) at around the same point it used to end early (about 2-3 minutes before the end). It is doing this with the same frequency as the original issue.
That’s the workaround. It will rebuffer and play out instead of ending early. A true fix will be at the PMS level. I don’t have an ETA, but it’s on the list.
I’m getting this on my Apple TV with some workout videos. Does this fix also apply?
Still getting this on my Nvidia Shield Pro - and on the Samsung TV App. Especially if you try to fast forward or skip forward too close to the end of a show / movie…
I know that this is a Roku thread but want to chime in that this seems to be a universal problem. I see this often when playing back on Samsung TV. Currently happening on direct stream mkv (1080p H.264) w/ audio-only transcoding (DTS 5.1 → AAC). No pausing/skipping/subtitle changing/resuming, just a straight direct stream. I transcode to RAM disk if that’s relevant but this happened when I was transcoding to HDD as well. Any word on that PMS fix?
