Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171
Player Version#: Roku Ultra Plex v6.4.9.6153
A lot of people have been having this issue for a couple years and usually it is fixed in a server update. I have tried some of the fixes others have mentioned such as lowering my transcode buffer from 60 to 15 but this doesnt work for me. Anyone else know any other ideas? Only TV Shows are affected, the video ends about 3 minutes before the end and then auto play starts the countdown for the next video in the series and then plays it.

I’m experiencing the same issue on Roku. I know this has been reported and repaired many times over the last few years, so I find it odd that it continues to re-emerge as an issue.
I am also experiencing the same issue. It happened with a movie as well, so it’s not only TV shows. It seems to only happen when transcoding.
Same here. I changed buffer length and restarted. Direct streams appear un affected. I will attempt hw decoding on and off.
I ran into a similar problem to this about two weeks ago. My daughter has a Roku 3 in her room and in the family room we have a Roku Premiere. The Roku 3 was having problems with 1 particular show which would 100% of the time would cut off approx 2 minutes before the end, always and every episode. Same show with Roku Premiere would not.
On investigation I found the Roku 3 was transoding the auto stream (Roku Premiere was not) which I suspected was causing the problems and then I found this thread which helped.
However, changing the transcoder default throttle buffer to 15 alone did not resolve the issue. I also changed transcoder quality to Prefer higher quality encoding and now the problem does not happen.
Daughter has watched 7 episodes of the show in question over the last week. Anyhow, posting my results here in case its of help to anyone else.

This issue is hitting some of my remote Roku users again this past week. Anyone have anything that works or suggestions?
Wish Plex would fix this bullshit. Totally ridiculous.
I am still experiencing this phenomenon but with both movies and TV. I am watching several movies from a list/collection so it will auto next to the next show on the list like a TV show. I have tried a few fixes but nothing has helped. There have been times when I will try to play a TV show and it will play for a minute or two and move on. I have been able to fast forward through some of the skip points but that is a terrible solution.
This has happened to me on Chromecast and Roku.
Also posted in the other thread as well. Because of this issue I’ve had to stop using Roku player at the moment. Cuts out 3-4 minutes before the end of the episode and moves on to the next one. Super annoying.
Still getting this on tv shows and movies. @ChuckPa I realize you may not be able to help, but do you know of someone who might be able to? Thanks for all the hard work!!
@anon5074910 I saw your post and got hopeful b/c I’m using Rokus as well. I’m still getting this problem too. I changed the transcoder to higher quality and it didn’t have any effect. Are both changes required?
@jeremyenos I made the changes I outlined above back in Feb and it has 100% fixed the problem for me on both our roku’s. Not once have we run into the problem again and we watch lots and was a very consistant problem when transcoding was taking place.
The transcoder default throttle buffer change was key for me.
@anon5074910 I’m just curious, did it actually “fix” the problem, or just reduce the cutoff to a point where it doesn’t interfere with what you watch (e.g. only cuts off credits)? I did notice that the amount of time remaining in an episode when plex cuts off was slightly less with a shorter buffer, but neither changing the buffer length nor the transcoder quality actually fixed anything for me.
Seems the various threads on this have been going since November of last year…really wish Plex would at least acknowledge the issue.

This is still happening. Going to try changing my transcoding quality first and see if that helps. I’m hesitant to change that buffer as I assume having it higher helps my remote users with spotty connections.
@buck2202 as I stated above it 100% fixed the problem for us. Previous episodes which had the problem were watched again to test and did not see the issue. We even auto started the next episode making sure it fully finished the previous one.
Tried to change transcoding, but no different. Thing is this is happening with media that is direct play. I like to shuffle TV shows, and every 3 or so episodes, the video just stops seconds from the end and does not go to the next episode, just stays there, clicking next goes to the next episode, but this is getting ridiculous. Happens on ALL clients; Chromecast, Roku, Amazon, Android TV, Web, Desktop.

I’m having the exact same problems on 2 rokus using the plexpass app. Movies stop about 3 minutes before credits consistently and just hang on a screen similar to the “next episode screen” awaiting me to press play to start the movie again. It doesn’t happen for all movies, but always ruins the mood every time it happens. I’m officially nervous about streaming movies in groups now.
I think any success with the buffer settings and transcoder quality are incidental and not fixes per say… Rather workarounds when it works. Not that I don’t appreciate the experience being shared though since it clearly helps some people! But let’s be clear that this problem is not fixed at all so it gets the attention it deserves… Even if some symptoms can be reduced by other settings, this is still very broken. Conversely, increased buffer or reduced transcode quality shouldn’t excusably cause this to occur.

Surprised this is still an issue. It’s been occuring to a wide swath of Roku users for at least 6 months now with not a mention from Plex. As some staff will recall I’m always happy to assist with providing logs if they want me to help replicate as it occurs to me at least daily.
