Hi,
I know this has been discussed previously in numerous threads, but I have still not gotten a clear answer, at least not one updated for the latest updates, and there also seems to be conflicting answers. If possible, I would like to get a definitive answer, with the current server and player versions in mind.
Plex seems to decode TrueHD tracks into lossless FLAC and then sending that out through the Apple TV as LPCM to my receiver. I gather that this happens without any quality loss, since the decoding/transcoding is done losslessly? Why then is it, that the same can’t be done with DTS-HD, or is it not needed? Why I ask is, that while playing DTS-HD tracks, both the server side and the player side indicates Direct Play, meaning nothing is converted or transcoded. However, I would like to know whether DTS-HD is converted losslessly to LPCM or if it is actually only the DTS core track that I am hearing? If so, I would like to understand why DTS-HD and TrueHD behave differently?
Thanks!
