Plex defaults to playing stereo and needs to be manually set to 5.1

Every time a new movie/TV show plays Plex defaults back to stereo and I need to change it back to 5.1. This is on a Firestick. What’s gives?

Anyone else seeing this? Any responses from Plex?

I fixed this issue by going to settings in Plex and changing pass through from HDMI to optical. I saw someone suggest this on another post. I have no idea why its worked, probably a bug, because I am not using optical, but HDMI. Hope it works for you.

Okay I figured out when it defaults to stereo on the Firestick. If the file is an .m4v container it defaults to stereo even if there is a surround sound track. If it is an .mkv file it will use the surround track. Please fix this Plex.

Okay, another new piece of info. If I use subler on Mac on the .m4v files and choose “the “fix audio fallbacks feature” then the Firestick will default you the 5.1. Don’t have this issue with other platforms though (lg and applets apps). Those are the only other platforms I have access to.
