When using the automatic function to download the next episodes of a show, it doesn’t seem to be doing a check after each episode to determine the next one to download.
After watching Season 1 of Doctor Who, I turned on the download function to keep the next 5 unwatched episodes on my laptop. The problem is that the next episode is correctly a Christmas special (and is “On Deck”), so it downloaded it from the Specials season. Then it cheerfully continued to download the next 4 episodes from the Specials season, rather than checking the next episode that would be On Deck to download the rest from Season 2 (1-4 of Season 2) like it should.
I don’t have a mid-season special to check if it will fail to download correctly, but I have a suspicion that if I had set Doctor Who to download 5 episodes at the start of Season 1 and were just downloading one at a time when an episode was watched, that it may correctly download the next one using On Deck order, but that it probably just determines the next episode, then downloads as many as are needed to fill up the buffer from that season without checking again unless the season runs out of episodes before the buffer is filled.
