Plex Desktop Frozen

Server Version#: 1.17.0.1841
Player Version#: Plex-1.3.1.916-1cb2c34d-x86_64.exe

I was playing a movie and the screen froze. I couldn’t exit the movie in a normal fashion so I had to reboot the PC. When I restarted plex it came up with the frame it had previously frozen on except there were no controls, i.e., the picture was in as own window (see image assuming this works).

I have tried re-installing plex player on my pc, have restarted the plexmediaserver on the linux system and it still does the same thing. Also, I went through the registry to delete anything I saw related to plex. I thought I would run plex on my iphone and it showed the same stuck frame and asked if I wanted to continue. Thinking ah ha this will fix it, I played it a little and the stopped it and reset it to unplayed. Went back to the pc and the same frozen frame appears with no controls.
Any help with this odd condition would be appreciated.

Please uninstall what you have now and then go here to install a preview release of v1.4 and see if that helps!

Unfortunetly the new version does the same thing. I noticed that when I was hovering over the plex icon on taskbar it showed 2 open windows, one was the stuck image, the other was a box with nothing other than a settings icon in it. I tried to click the setting but it just brought up the stuck image again. I also tried removing the file from the library but it still did the same thing. Am experimenting a bit more but if you any ideas I would like to hear them.

Okay, after removing the movie from the server I reinstalled the plex app and I’ve made it act differently, though it still is stuck but in a different way.

As you see I now only have a single window for plex and if I put my cursor over the gear icon it says options. I tried to click on it but it does nothing, nor does it do anything anywhere I click on it. In other words I am unable to bring up that window. There must be some data on the server side that is screwing this up but I have no clue where to look.

I’m having the same issue. Plex 1.3 crashed… reinstallation doesn’t work. upgrading to 1.4 doesn’t work either. When starting it shows a frame of a tv show and is unresponsive. Are there any cahce folders I need to remove to fix this?

I deleted the plex folder in %appdata%\local
It’s working now.

Yes, that did the trick. It’s the one folder I missed deleting. Thanks!

It does work but this is not permanent. I’ve had that issue and after cleaning that folder, it worked again for a while, but eventually started doing the same, so I resorted to using the browser.
There is definitely a bug somewhere
