You translated the “high” to “oben”, which means “up” or “above” and is more directional like north, west, down, up. Example would be “Look up!” is “Schau nach oben!” (which directly translated means ‘look towards up’)
It should be “hoch”. “The water level is high” - “Das Wasser steht hoch”, which is more stationary.
Compare it to “The stakes are going up” vs “The stakes are high”. That’s ‘oben’ vs ‘hoch’.
Its a fine distinction but very obvious for every german speaker.
