Plex did a scan when I disconnected my media, now everything is missing

Is there a better way to get my media back then do a full library scan(all my media just has a trash can over it)? A full library scan will take over 48 hours.

No. Just do the scan.

What on earth. 48 hours sounds a bit excessive. How much stuff do you have?? That or you are using very slow connected devices.
But in the future if you plan on disconnecting your media I’d suggest you exit Plex before hand(that or disable library scans/scan updates)

Plex makes automatic database backups. Just stop Plex and copy and rename one of the backups into Plex’s data directory from before the problem. Then restart Plex.

The only thing that will have to be rescanned will be media that has been added since the backup you choose.

You also might want to turn off “Empty trash after every scan” just in case something happens again.

I suspected this option was already off cause the OP has trash icons on all the posters. But then again, you never know… Best to check, lol.

If it were off then simply reconnecting the media, assuming it gets the same path, would only require a simple verification scan that would just verify the path and not download any metadata.

However the fact that, apparently, reconnecting the drives did not work there seems something else going on.

Without more info, like before/after exact paths I do not think we can be sure what is really going on.

BTW: If the media got reattached with new paths then you can just add the new paths to the libraries without deleting the old paths and let it scan. Again a simple verification scan will occur and all the media will reappear.

I have actually intentionally done that in the past.

My Trash can is not emptied, it is off. I have over 500TB of media, scans are a bit slower than usual because its from a cloud mounted device. However, it is not a weird issue with new paths or anything like that.

You can see in this picture, plex knows the movie is available, the path is also valid, I manually checked. Usually, if that path doesn’t exist, you would get an unavailable next to it. So plex knows it exists yet still shows a trash can over the media, so it is not able to be played until I do a full scan. I do not want to have to do this. No metadata is being downloaded, it just needs to get off this unavailable icon so I can actually play the media.

I do not want to restore from backups, as I will have to run a full scan if I do that.
