I’ve been running plex on my synology for about a year with no issues. I used makemkv to load my dvd/bluray to the nas. I have only copied the main movie file to the nas in a directory called movies. Everything plays fine including the extras and such.
I looked at the documentation and it shows a different way to add movies included a directory and sub-directory for each movie. Is there an advantage to this or not. TIA
Depending on how many files you’ve added to your library, you’ll notice decreasing scan speeds if you have all files inside a single folder. If you store each movie in its own subfolder, this can help avoid that issue.
Edit: there’s also benefits if you start adding local extras or media assets (e.g. posters…)
It automatically creates a folder, names it and puts the file inside
It will also pull posters and input the IMDB id number into each file so you get an exact match
I.e., The Avengers (2012) {imdb-tt0848228}.mkv
Movie format
Folder format: ${title} (${year})
File format ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}}
