Plex displays wrong colours with Dolby Vision on AppleTV 4k

Thanks @ChuckPa for the update and great news that someone is working on it!

I am looking forward then to when an answer for question number 3 will become available and of course hope it will be rather sooner than later

I think I’m experiencing this bug on a new Apple TV 4K on a 2020 Samsung QN75 based model With this TV, everything is way too dark on HDR 4k content to watch. If I disable “match content range” it gets too dark.

I normally disable match content for this TV because it doesn’t have Dobly Vision, but HDR10. It tends to look brighter if we disable it.

These same files work fine in Infuse.

Should be a different thing. This bug here has totally off colours.

So you’re saying that because natively ATV does not support DV profile 7 vs profile 5 then it’s up to Plex to add support by software decoding? Yeah, sure bud. Imagine the cost of licensing through Dolby for that, but then again it doesn’t sound like you knew there were different DV profiles…

That’s not what I am saying. And you can stop with the arrogant tone. Does not make you look smart or funny, only makes you look childish.

What I was saying is that Infuse can play the file perfectly, so it can’t be an aTV HW limitation. And if it were, outputting wrong colours is not the way, an appropriate error message would be.
And the file(s) in question is profile 5, so … thanks for the input “bud”?

Childish? Someone needs to relax, bro.

You are not talking about DV in a whole and didn’t mention profile 5 vs 7, and not talking about HDR c̶o̶l̶o̶u̶r̶s̶ color mapping. So, you’re saying you don’t know anything about the rest mentioned, now you can stop…pal.

Lol. Nice. You talked total BS, got called out for it and replied with more arrogance and more BS. Good on you for being persistent with your lack of social skills and reasoning there, bud.

Btw if you would have read the thread you would have known that the issue was already acknowledged by Plex and is being worked on. So… yeah… thanks for you input again?

Anyhow, you have a nice life.
Good day, sir.

I’m having the same issue. I don’t want to pay for another subscription with Infuse.

I don’t blame you. I gave Infuse a try, and I don’t think it is worth it for yet another subscription. It can only pull in videos from a plex server, it doesn’t do playlists, nor does it support music or any other audio files. We just need Plex fix DV playback on apple devices.

I’ll add myself here too, I have the same problem. Hope it gets fixed soon. Its been a while…

@ChuckPa , can we get an update pretty please?

I just looked. I see activity but don’t know where they are at with the whole effort.

Thanks @ChuckPa for the update, good to know that there is some movement, but of course some kind of a timeline would be much more reassuring that we will eventually really have a solution

Could you ask for a tentative timeline please? It has been 4 month now.

Nvidia shield got fixed - why not Apple Tv?

Adding my voice to this bug as I’m experiencing the same thing. I would really like Dolby Vision to be fixed with Plex on the AppleTV.

I use both Plex and Infuse. Plex has a much nicer layout, and is easier to navigate around (many WAF points). Infuse on the other hand plays everything without a hiccup. So an idea for the pre-play screen: add a “OPEN IN INFUSE” button for us.

Just chiming in to say this issue also affects the Roku 4k sticks.

Edit: I’m an idiot :joy:

Latest update did not fix the issue.
