Server Version#: 4.63.0
OS: Windows 10 (build 18363.1556)
Plex is starting minimized correctly, but if I click on the system tray icon (both left-click and right-click), it opens a blank window. See attached screenshot.
This started a month or two ago and has not been an issue for years until now. If I minimize the said window, it will not disappear and minimize to system tray, but rather behave like any other Windows application. Using the “x” in the upper right to close this window, shuts down the server. Also, force-killing plex.exe via task manager will also close this window.
Has anybody experienced this incredible annoying behaviour? Any tips on how to make Plex properly minimize to system tray again?
Are you talking about Plex Media Server (Plex Media Server.exe) or the Plex for Windows client app (Plex.exe)?
Left clicking on Plex Media Server shouldn’t do anything. Right clicking should bring up a small menu of choices.
If this is Plex for Windows, what version are you running? There have been reports of the app just showing a blank white window. The current 1.35.1 version has some fixes to address this.
No, normally, left-clicking does/should not do anything (double left click opens the Plex in my browser using the server’s 127.0.0.1-address) but with this problem being present, a single left click opens that white window.
Regarding the version, I see that I must have looked in the wrong page under settings when I made the opening post. It says 1.24.3.5033 there now (while Ple Web → General says " Version 4.63.0"). I am on the Public server update channel, not Beta. I assume I need to swap to Beta to access 1.35.x already now? I used to be on the Beta, but in an attempt to fix an issue with subtitles not loading, I swapped back to Public. Not sure if the update channel ever was the real issue here though.
edit: Very strange, but I cannot reproduce the white screen problem anymore, after being bugged with it for weeks. I have not updated the server, and I have not restarted my computer since the opening post was made either. I will report back if this “fix” is stable or not.
That is odd. A single left click should not do anything.
That is the version of the Plex Web client you are using. If you are accessing 127.0.0.1 then that is the bundled version that comes with Plex Media Server. I see you’ve already found it but to clarify, look further down on that settings page and you will see another General page under the name of your server. That is where the server information is.
