Sorry, but the Shield “tube” is not the real deal. Only the Shield Pro achieves the excellent results reported around these forums with large bitrate media.
The tube model has been stripped down too much, causing it to fail with high-bitrate video files. (probably mainly because they reduced the RAM from 3 to 2 GB)
play not possible but only when the subtitles are on and not all videos.
At burned in subtitles there are free options. 1. Automatically 2. Only image formats and 3. Always.
Most of the time i have to use number two and 1 is so far at four anime shows.
I always have to chance it.
the shield works fine local. No problem with that. I can watch 4k blu ray movies without a problem
What I want is not to change between Automatically and Only image formats at the burned in subtitles.
Emby and kodi do not have a problem with that.
Why not just leave it on Automatic?
Because Automatic requires transcoding for ASS subtitles on some Clients while Image Only doesn’t.
Roku, for instance, will NOT Direct Play ASS subs UNLESS ‘Image Only’ is ticked.
We’re specifically talking about the Nvidia Shield here. Roku is not relevant to this discussion.

How can I change that. I don’t want to go to subtitle settling and change it every time when the subtitle has a different format. Pgs is the format where I need to change to automatic.
