Unable to match ANY film added using all agents

Hello,

I hope someone can help. I am having a very frustrating time trying to match any of my newly added films. They are named correctly and aren’t any differently named to the other 600 films I have previously added. I have followed advice on YouTube to change the film name as it is on IMDB to correctly match up. I have changed settings and switched and swapped priority in “Server, Agents” and switched and changed where I would like my metadata to come from for eg IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes etc etc. I will either come across a match on “Plex Movie” but will not download any artwork, description or any info or will not find a match at all using “The Movie Database”.

What is going on? Before I explode please :-/

Can you supply an example of a file name that is not matching please?

Also, if you could supply your Plex logs that would help. If you go to Plex settings->server->help you will find a convenient download button for the logs. Attach that zip file to your reply, thanks.

Hello, sorry for a late reply. I work a lot and I have been doing full back-ups of my movies off-line in the time I had free. Ok, so my most recent films I have added are named as follows -

To match them is either impossible or I have to mess around a lot to get it to match somehow. I will also provide the Plex Logs for you.

I hope you can help,
Thanks Rick

Following on from the info I have provided above ^^ I have figured out the only way I am able to match anything up is to do the following process for each individual movie -

“Refresh” individual movie.
“Fix Match”.
“Search Options”.
“Edit title” - Removing unnecessary words and replacing “.” with a space.
Type the year in “Year” and hit search using “The movie Database” as “Plex Movie” does not work even if it comes up with a match, it just does not download the metadata no matter what I edit.
Select the top result of matches, it will download metadata and say its finished, but it doesn’t download anything.
Then I have to “Unmatch” the film and “Match…”
Repeating the process using “The Movie Database” and then suddenly it works.

Do you see my frustrating pedimented? :-/

Try correcting your file names. The file names shown above do not follow the Plex naming guidelines, see the link in my signature for more information about file naming in Plex.

When you have corrected your file names, try updating the library, although I suspect you may need to ‘refresh all’ for your library.

It may also be necessary to do the Plex Dance below:

  1. remove file/s from media folder/s
  2. Update Library
  3. Optimise Database
  4. Clean Bundles
  5. Empty Trash

Wait for each of the above tasks to complete before moving on to the next step.

Then return your file/s to your media folders.

I also recommend using FileBot to automatically rename your files for you.

Ok, thanks!! I will give this ago over the weekend, although I do not understand why suddenly they do not match and coincide with the Plex naming guidelines as all my movies previous are named pretty much just the same way and they matched and I have (approaching) 600 movies now.

Thank you and I will update my findings over the weekend.

Its one of the perceived mysteries with Plex. If 599 INCORRECTLY named movies are identified and the 600th isn’t its because all 600 are named incorrectly and you got lucky in the past.
Absolute +1 for Filebot to rename all your movies is about 2 minutes work after installing.
Hope you get it sorted.

Hi guys,

I’m still having the exact same issues even after renaming with FileBot. It still does not match. Half the time it finds no match and half the time it finds a match but does not download any metadata, even though it says it is downloading metadata.

Any more suggestions? Is there a way to reset/reinstall Plex without loosing all previous film and TV library data? It seems there may be something wrong with the Plex install its-self, maybe something is corrupt?

Thank you,
Rick

Can you grab your logs and post them here please. You will find them in settings->server->help. Try to grab the logs a few minutes after refreshing several files.

After you have your logs, you can simply stop Plex from running and then re-install Plex using the latest version, 1.2.6.

Your libraries will not be effected at all during an un-install/re-install.

Hello,

I am hoping that this will show up in the logs I have provided. I renamed a partial amount of films using FileBot and hit Refresh. It wiped all the metadata from those films, but kept the Poster and Background.

Help :-/

As you can see Plex is finding and matching the renamed file.

I have found a lot of errors in the com.plexapp.agents.imdb.log, but I am not sure what is causing it. That does seem to be why you are not getting metadata.

Would you follow this guide: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/202967376-Clearing-Plugin-Channel-Agent-HTTP-Caches

Then Plex Dance one of your renamed files and let me know if you are able to get metadata, posters etc. for that file, thanks.

Also, you should remove all of the .gz files from your media folders, as they are simply taking up precious resources.

So far, so good. I deleted “com.plexapp.agents.imdb” and reset Plex Media Server. I saw the file re-appear on it’s restart. I then moved in groups of 20 from one film file to an area Plex is not linked too, did the Plex dance and re-added the films in groups of 20. They were all added with all the info (Metadata, posters etc). I also deleted all .gz files from that film file.

That was just a small file. Over the weekend I will do exactly the same with the much bigger file of films in groups of 20, using FileBot to rename correctly, moving the file and do the Plex dance, re-add and update. I will let you know how I get on.

Thank you for your help so far

Right, so over the weekend I have managed to re-name all my films correctly and re-add them all. I have figured that every 24-48 hours I need to delete “com.plexapp.agents.imdb” or it will start playing up again.

Without wasting any more of your time which I do fully appreciate the time you have given to help by the way, I think my only other option will be to start a fresh Plex, possibly a fresh Windows (At some point). There is obviously some error or corrupt file within installation or registry.

Thank you for your help
