I am running into issues playing any EAC3 5.1 encoded video and also using a Shield for my Plex server. I am unable to find the codec folder when trying to find it via the Shield (using a file explorer app) and for some reason when I try and connect via Finder and smb connection it fails.
Any help in how I can find/delete the codec folder?
Same issue here.
Pretty much anyone that uses a firestick on my server is now transcodingâŠwhat in the world is this all about??
Does anyone even bother testing these releases before sending them out to the public?
I also have this exact same problem - frustrating as hell. Iâve downgraded the Plex app for the moment. Hopefully this issue and more control in the Plex Client Apps will return.
I tried this tip (Downgraded all updates and reverted to 5.6.1.505). But it just looks like it works without transcoding, but actually doesnât. The thing is, on the old version there is no way to tell directly from the shield whether you are transcoding or not. You just select âOriginal Qualityâ in setting and play.
While playing the video go to Plex.tv on some other device (your computer, tablet, phone) and view the dashboard. Itâll show you 1 video as playing. On the right of the video there is an icon for âShow Detailsâ. When you click on that it shows that audio is being transcoded to AAC.
I also tried deleting the Codecs folder. That doesnât work either. BTW, Iâm using E-AC3 audio within an MKV container. Seems the other comments about it being supported only within MP4 container might be true. Will try that. Or better still start converting audio to AAC instead to pass-through when ripping my blu-rays.
Im not so sure your theory is correct there punchdragon. If you check the CPU usage during these tests youll see the old version barely touches the CPU, thus not trasncoding. The upated version transcodes and batters the CPU
I didnât compare CPU usage. There might be other issues in the new version. Not sure.
But the Plex dashboard itself, says itâs transcoding audio even with the old version. There is no guess work involved. It specifically says transcoding audio to AAC. Check it out yourself. Believe me, Iâll be happy to be proven wrong :).
